Overview

This is the audio driver for the Gateway Midway, Midway Plus, Midway GV, Midway PE, Midway 2, and Seabreeze motherboards.


Identification

Use the following steps to confirm that this is the correct audio driver update for your computer.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer.  On your keyboard, repeatedly press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version displays like any of the following: BF86510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters) or SR84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx.  The BIOS prefix BF86510A and SR84510A are constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.  

3.  If this is correct, this is the correct audio driver for your computer.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click Yes.

2.  As soon as the computer restarts, on your keyboard, repeatedly press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version displays like any of the following: BF86510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters) or SR84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx.  The BIOS prefix BF86510A and SR84510A are constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

4.  If this is correct, this is the correct audio driver for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.
 

Installation

1.  Download the file to the desktop.

2.  On the desktop, double-click the Soundmax5240.exe file.  The needed files expand to the C:\Cabs\Soundmax5240 folder.

3.  From the Start menu, click Run.

4.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\Soundmax5240\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

5.  In the SoundMAX Install dialog box, click Next. 

6.  The driver installs.

7.  In the SoundMAX Install dialog box, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish.

8.  The computer restarts automatically and the updated sound drivers are installed and initialized.


Removal

Removal of the sound driver can be accomplished using the Add or Remove Programs option in Control Panel.  However, after installing the Integrated SoundMAX Digital Audio drivers and then removing the drivers, the operating system installs or attempts to install the drivers again when the computer restarts.  The most effective way to remove this version of the driver is to update to a newer version.  


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty installing the new driver, download the file again, and then perform the installation steps.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
