Overview

This is the driver for the Gateway Branded Wireless USB Adapter 802.11g in Windows 2000 and Windows XP.


Identification

The Gateway Wireless NIC has the model number of WGU-210 listed on it.


Installation

If not already done, locate and double-click the 7514042.exe file that you originally downloaded from the Internet.  The needed files extract to the C:\Cabs\7514042 folder.

Installation 

Note: Use the instructions below for Windows 2000. For this operating systems, install the application software first before physically installing the USB adapter. 

Application Software Installation for Windows 2000 or Windows XP

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\7514042\App\Setup.exe.  Click OK. 

2.  Wait as Setup prepares the InstallShield Wizard. 

3.  In the InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Next.

4.  In the License Agreement dialog box, click Yes to accept the terms of the license agreement.

5.  In the Choose Destination Location dialog box, click Next to accept the default folder.

6.  Files copy. 

7.  Installation is complete.  Click Finish.

Driver Installation for Windows 2000

1.  Connect the USB cable to the Wireless USB adapter. 

2.  Connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB 2.0 compatible port on your computer. 

3.  Windows detects the new hardware.  In the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Next.

4.  In the Install Hardware Device Drivers dialog box, select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), and then click Next. 

5. In the Locate Driver Files dialog box, select the Specify a location check box. Verify that all other check boxes are cleared.  Click Next. 

6.  In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\7514042\Driver\Win2000.  Click OK.

7.  The wizard locates the drivers.  Click Next.

8.  The software is installed.  Click Finish to close the wizard.

Driver Installation for Windows XP

1.  Connect the USB cable to the Wireless USB adapter. 

2.  Connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB 2.0 compatible port on your computer. 

3.  Windows detects the new hardware.  

4.  In the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next. 

5.  In the Please choose your search and installation dialog box, verify that search for the best driver in these locations is selected.

6.  Click to clear the check mark from Search removable media, and then select Include this location in the search.

7.  In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\7514042\Driver\WinXP.  Click Next.

8.  Files copy. 

9.  Installation is complete.  Click Finish.

Removal

Windows XP

1.  Open Control Panel.

* If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel. 
* If your are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, open System.

* If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. 
* If you are in Classic View, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 

4.  In Device Manager, click Network adapters, and then select Gateway Wireless 802.11g USB Adapter. 

5.  From the Action menu, click Uninstall. 

6.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK. 

6.  Files remove.

7.  Turn off the computer and remove the card.

8.  Removal is complete.


Troubleshooting

If the driver installation did not complete correctly, follow the removal instructions and perform the installation again.  If it cannot extract the files correctly, copy the drivers or install the software download the driver again and extract it again.

This is the first release of the Gateway Wireless driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
