Please note that this software is distributed under the Agere Systems WinModem End User SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT, which can be found in the file license.txt, included in this package INSTALLING THE Lucent/Agere Modem Driver Version 8.26a Following are the steps to follow to INSTALL the Lucent modem driver for Linux. Please note that you need to have the kernel source with headers to 'make install' this driver. To have these files you need to include 'kernel development' component while installing Linux on your system. Step 1 To install the Lucent modem driver in LINUX, you need to run the install script "make install" from the command prompt. This will install both the Lucent modem controller driver ltmodem.o and the Modem serial interface driver ltserial.o. To install the modem driver you must be logged on as root. Step 2 To use the Lucent modem, you can configure "minicom" for the modem device. Enter "minicom -s" at the command prompt. Choose "Serial Port Setup" For "Serial Device" choose "/dev/modem" Save settings and start using the modem with minicom. Step 3 For users of SuSe Linux 7.3, which uses Linux Kernel versions 2.4.10, if you are booting from an image /boot/vmlinuz, please copy the file /boot/vmlinuz.version.h to the directory /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build/include/linux and rename it to version.h Users of Linux kernel versions 2.4.10 and above need to do this, unless their Linux software providers does this for them. UNINSTALLING THE MODEM DRIVER Following are the steps to follow to uninstall the Lucent driver for Linux. Step 1 To uninstall the Lucent modem driver in LINUX, you need to run the uninstallation script "./ltuninst" from the command prompt. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
