improve the connecting device. Additionally, the Cardbus slots are
mechanically and electrically backward compatible with PCMCIA cards.

The NETGEAR FA510 Fast Ethernet Cardbus card automatically performs line
speed checking and configures itself. No user or system administrator
intervention is required to link at 10 or 100Mbps speed.

  3. Disk Content
  ---------------

The DIAG.EXE diagnostics program, executable only under MS-DOS, can
be used to detect the Cardbus controller and diagnose any problem with
the NETGEAR FA510 Cardbus card. The following table is a list of
the directory structure and where the individual drivers can be found
  on the drivers disk.

  4. Getting Started
  ------------------

  1) Make sure the notebook PC supports Cardbus slots before attempting the
installation. If a 32-bit Cardbus PC Card is inserted into 16-bit PC
Card (16-bit PCMCIA card) slots, it may damage the notebook PC and/or
     the Cardbus PC Card.

  2) Connect one end of the media coupler Cable to the NETGEAR FA510 Fast
Ethernet Cardbus Card and connect the other end of the media coupler
to the twisted-pair cable. The UTP cable include in the package could
     be used.

  5. Machine Specific Notes
  -------------------------

NETGEAR has done a tremendous amount of work to ensure that the FA510
Cardbus card is compatible with the widest range of notebook PCs possible.
Since Windows NT 3.51, 4.0, NetWare DOS ODI and other platforms using
NDIS 2 drivers do not automatically support Cardbus PC Card, the FA510
Cardbus Card comes with all the drivers needed to support the listed
platforms. The default IRQ setting is 10. However, for the notebook PCs
listed below, IRQ should be set as follows:

         a) Micron Transport XPE: 5
         b) AcerNote Light383: 9
         c) Chicony 9780: 5, 7, or 9
         d) Featron 8850: 9
         e) FIC StepNote SE: 11

  1) For Toshiba notebook PCs with Cardbus support, make sure that the BIOS
has set the slot to Cardbus mode before installing the drivers for
different operating systems. To do so, reboot the machine into MS-DOS
mode. At MS-DOS prompt, run the Toshiba setup program TSETUP. Inside
the program menu, find an item titled "PC Card Controller Mode", press
space bar to change the mode to Cardbus/16-bit if the mode is set to
     PCIC Compatible.

  2) For AcerNote Light, to enable Cardbus Support, go to System Security in
BIOS setup and set to Cardbus support to ENABLE.

  3) To install/run any drivers/programs in MS-DOS mode, make sure that
the Plug and Play O/S setting in the BIOS is set to NO as in the
     Gateway 2000 Solo.

  6. Quick Installation Guide
  ---------------------------

If any difficulty is encountered after installing the NETGEAR FA510 Cardbus
Card driver, please read SECTION 5 Machine Specific Notes in this file, or
run the MS-DOS Diagnostics Program to determine the correct IRQ setting.

    1) MS-DOS Diagnostics Program
    -----------------------------
Before running the DIAG.EXE program, insert the NETGEAR Cardbus Card into
a Cardbus slot and connects the PC Card to a Ethernet/Fast Ethernet
    Hub/Switch.

The following main menu will be shown on the screen.

  7. Known Limitations
  --------------------

    a. If you double click the PC Card (PCMCIA) icon from Control Panel
window when a PC card is used at the same time as the FA510 Cardbus
Card in Windows NT 4.0, you will see the status of the PC Card on
one socket and a RED cross mark on the other socket for the FA510
Cardbus Card. This is a limition of Windows NT 4.0 because it only
has Plug-and-Play support for 16-bit PCMCIA Cards. It cannot detect
       any 32-bit Cardbus PC Cards.

    b. If you are running Windows 95 OSR2 (950B or 950C) or Windows 98,
you can use the NETGEAR FA510 Fast Ethernet Cardbus Card with a
second Cardbus or PCMCIA Card in your notebook PC. However, since
most other operating systems do not support this feature, you can
only use the PC Card by itself for now.

  8. Technical Support
  --------------------

If you encountered any problems during the installation of the NETGEAR
FA510 Fast Ethernet Cardbus Card, please review this README.TXT file
thoroughly, and refer to SECTION 5.4 Important Notes for Technical
