Driver Installation for Novell NetWare Server version 4.1X
----------------------------------------------------------
Upgrading NetWare 4.10 Server software
--------------------------------------
The provided NetWare 4.10 server drivers for FA312 or FA311 follows
the Novell ODI Driver Specification version 3.3, and is capable of
supporting requests from legacy DOS client and the new clients
issuing client32 requests. As a result, the version 4.10 NetWare
server software must be patched to work with this driver. The
patching method is described below as part of the installation
procedure.
The Novell NetWare 4.11 server software is already capable of
supporting ODI Specification 3.3 driver. No patching is necessary.
With either version 4.10 of 4.11 of Novell NetWare, you have a choice
of following the auto install procedure from Novell or manually
modifying the AUTOEXEC.NCF file to load the necessary NLM files and
driver.
Installation Procedure
----------------------
1. If you have Novell NetWare ver 4.10, execute LSWAP in the
32BITLAN directory at MS-DOS prompt to upgrade the NetWare 4.10
server software. Skip this step if you have NetWare 4.11.
> LSWAP A:\NETWARE\SERVER\NW41X\LOADER.EXE C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE
Usage: LSWAP [loaderFilePath [serverFilePath]]
Default loaderFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE
Default serverFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE
2. From this point onward, you have a choice of running the
auto install program from Novell NetWare or manually modifying
the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
Running Auto Install from Novell NetWare
----------------------------------------
The following instructions use the FA312 as an example. However, all
examples applying to FA312 can be extended the FA311.
1. Boot up the Novell Server.
2. After booting up, execute "LOAD INSTALL". Type:
: load install
3. Select "Driver Option" and then press Enter.
4. Select "Configure network drivers" and then press Enter.
5. Select "Load a driver" and then press Enter.
6. Press the <Ins> key to install an unlisted driver.
7. Press <F3> to specify a different path, provide the path where
the FA31X.LAN driver resides and hit Enter.
eg. A:\NWSERVER\SERVER\NW41X
8. Select "FA31x.LAN" to start the installation procedure.
9. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to copy driver FA31x.LAN.
10. Select "No" when asked if you want to save existing ETHERTSM.NLM.
11. Select "No" when asked if you want to save existing NBI.NLM.
12. Select "No" when asked if you want to save existing MSM.NLM.
13. Choose the "Select/Modify driver parameters and protocols" selection
and move the cursor to the FA31x_1 parameters window to change the
the slot number.
A slot number must be entered before the installation can proceed.
You can make the slot number 1. Even though the slot number may
not be correct, the FA31x.LAN driver automatically find the FA312
card and load the proper slot number.
You do not have to enter any value for media and line speed or the
Node address. The driver can use the default value for these
parameters.
14. Choose "Save parameters and load driver" to start the driver loading
process.
15. Hit <Enter> when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
FA31x_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_802.2).
16. Hit <Enter> when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
FA31x_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_SNAP).
17. Hit Enter when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
FA31x_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_II).
18. Hit Enter when a Network number is provided to bind IPX to the
FA31x_1 adapter card (frame Ethernet_802.3).
All four supported Ethernet frames types are loaded.
19. Select No when asked if you want to select an additional Network
driver.
20. Select "Return to the previous menu" in the Additional Driver Actions
window.
21. Hit <Esc> a number of times to exit to the Install main menu. Select
"Yes" when asked if you want to exit INSTALL.
22. When existing to the main, the FA312 driver is already loaded for the
adapter card.
Manually modifying Software on an existing NetWare 4.1X Server
--------------------------------------------------------------
The following instructions use the FA312 as an example. However, all
examples applying to FA312 can be extended the FA311.
1. Copy the FA31x.LAN file into the subdirectory of your server.
For example:
> COPY A:\NETWARE\SERVER\NW41X\FA31x.LAN C:\NWSERVER
2. Copy the following NLM files into your server directory.
> COPY A:\NETWARE\SERVER\NW41X\NBI.NLM C:\NWSERVER
> COPY A:\NETWARE\SERVER\NW41X\MSM.NLM C:\NWSERVER
> COPY A:\NETWARE\SERVER\NW41X\ETHERTSM.NLM C:\NWSERVER
3. Run SERVER.EXE on the server.
4. At the NetWare prompt, enter "Load Install" to edit the
AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
: load install
Select <System Option>
Select <Edit Autoexec.NCF file>
5. Add the following lines to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file:
load C:\NWSERVER\NBI.NLM
load C:\NWSERVER\MSM.NLM
load C:\NWSERVER\ETHERTSM.NLM
load C:\NWSERVER\FA31x.LAN frame=Ethernet_yyyy name=FA31x_1_zzz
;zzz is a unique 3-digit number
; for every frame type loaded.
;yyyy is the Ethernet frame type.
bind ipx FA31x_1_zzz net=xxxx ;xxxx is the network number (eg. 33)
6. Press the <Esc> key when done editing. Select "Yes" to save.
7. Select "Exit" to exit NetWare Configuration.
8. Reboot the server system. The driver is now installed.
Parameters supported by the FA31x.LAN driver
---------------------------------------------------------
SLOT 1 - Forces the driver to search for the specified board
LineSpeed - Select connection type of the Fast Ethernet PCI
adapter card.
= 1 Auto-Negotiation
= 2 Line speed = 10
= 3 Line speed = 100
FDUP - Select the duplex mode of the adapter card. This
parameter works only when LineSpeed is not set to Auto-
Negotiation.
= 1 Full duplex on
= 2 Full duplex off
> LOAD C:\NWSERVER\FA31x.LAN LineSpeed=2 FDUP=1
Troubleshooting
---------------
If you experience the "Command Line Parameter for FA312" warning
message when STARTNET.BAT is executed, provide the slot number
at the command line in STARTNET.BAT as illustrated below.
> LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\FA31x.LAN FRAME=ETHERNET_802.3 SLOT=1
SLOT must be the correct value as found by the driver.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
