This document gives you the detail of important matters which have to be checked before you install the AR-PB9 printer driver. Be sure to read this document thoroughly before continuing with the installation. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Compatible OS ------------------------------------------------------------------- PCL5e Driver: Microsoft Windows 95 Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Windows 2000 Microsoft Windows 3.1 Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.1x PCL6 Driver: Microsoft Windows 95 Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Windows 2000 ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hint ------------------------------------------------------------------- - Please use the latest version of application software for your Operation System as much as possible. - Makedisk caution: Please format the floppy disks to ensure no bad sectors are present on the disks before using Makedisk. - If you encounter printing problems with Windows PCL6 printer driver, please try to use Windows PCL5e printer driver instead. - Some image printing problems such as PhotoShop printing of an oversize image which results in extra printed matter or a blue screen may be solved by reducing the image size to fit the paper size. - When printing light colored lines and/or thin lines in your document the lines may not be visible. Please change the color of the line to a darker color or make the line thicker. - Some fill effects and/or patterns might not be printed (or invisible). At that time, please use the fill effect or pattern that can be printed correctly. - When using a Novell network, if a blank Page prints after the Job is completed turn off the "Form Feed After Job" found in the network setting in the PC client software. - There are some limitations when using the AR-NC1D (Print Server Card) and the Peer to peer printing utility. You must switch on the printer before initialization of Network PCs. If not, the PC's will not recognize the printer and you will have to power on the printer then reboot the PC and restart the utility. - With some applications such as Lotus Approach97 if you select "Download fonts" as the font source and select "Download as bitmap font" as the TrueType Mode in font dialog, shrunk font might be printed. At that time, please use resident font or select "Download as TrueType" as the TrueType Mode. - When printing the data of large volume, LPT1 Error might occur. In this case, please modify the setting time for timeout of printer properties tab to be longer after opening "Set" - "Printer" at the start menu of Windows. - When using the bitmap font for download font, the large character might not be printed. In this case, please modify the resolution of Advanced setting tab of driver to 300dpi or modify the font to TrueType. - When you want to do "Fit to Page" printing with any application, please do following instructions: 1) Go to Driver Properties in Print from application. 2) Enable "Fit to Page" in [Paper Size] under "Paper" Tab. 3) Select a paper size. "Fit to page" will not work if you select the paper size before enabling "Fit to Page", as the paper size information is reflected in the application right after the paper size is selected. ------------------------------------------------------------------- About PCL5e/PCL6 Driver ------------------------------------------------------------------- - When printing a watermark, please select "HP-GL/2 (Vector)" found in the [Graphics Mode] window by selecting the "Advanced" tab. These can be eliminated by changing to "Raster" from "Vector" mode under the Advanced Tab in the [Graphics Mode] window. - When you are using Windows PCL printer driver with some applications such as Adobe FreeHand, watermark might not be printed even if you have set to print watermark in printer driver. - It may take time to print the original containing a large amount of graphic data of draw system. This problem may be solved by taking the following measures. Open the printer property of the print dialog and then change [Graphics Mode] on the "Advanced" tab to "Raster". - When printing the image by using the application such as MS paint, MS Word, the original image data might be appeared under the printed image. This might be solved by modifying the graphic mode of Advanced setting tab to be raster after opening the printer properties of print dialog. - When printing with Netscape Navigator 4.0, the image of title or index might be not printed. This might be solved by modifying the graphic mode of Advanced setting tab to be raster after opening the printer properties of print dialog. - When printing the document including the large graphic data by using the application such as Corel Draw, it might be time consuming. If you use the PCL driver, this might be solved by modifying the graphic mode of Advanced setting tab to be raster after opening the printer properties of print dialog. ------------------------------------------------------------------- About Limitations for each Application Software ------------------------------------------------------------------- - With Windows printer driver, if Microsoft Paintbrush of Windows 3.1x is used, sometimes Fit To Page does not work normally. - Some image printing problems such as PhotoShop printing of an oversize image which results in extra printed matter or a blue screen may be solved by reducing the image size to fit the paper size. - With some applications such as Lotus Approach97, when you select "Advanced" property "Fonts" in the print dialog and select "Download fonts" as the [Font Source] and select "Download as bitmap font" in the [TrueType Mode], the size of the downloaded font bitmap images may be smaller than requested. At this time, please use resident font or select "Download as TrueType" as the [TrueType Mode]. - When printing is performed with the use of Acrobat Reader, garbled characters may be printed. This problem may be solved by taking the following measures. Open the printer property of the print dialog and then change the [Graphics Mode] on the "Advanced" tab to "Raster", on top of that, press [FONT] button on the "Advanced" tab, and then select "Download Fonts" for [Font Source] and select "Download as bitmap font" for [TrueType Mode]. - When printing by using Windows3.1 application software (ex.MS-Word6), the character might be not printed or printed incorrectly to be the layout of document disturbed. For MS-Word6, the trouble shooting for this problem is described at the "[MS Word Text Converters] session," of Help. Other application software may also describe the trouble shooting for this problem. Referring to the Manual, README.TXT or Help at first is recommended when this trouble occurs. - When the map is not printed by using the Lotus123, it might be solved with the following trouble shooting described in the Lotus homepage. - Open the printer properties and select the "Advanced"tab. - Set 300dpi for resolution. - If Microsoft Publisher is installed, sometimes the Configuration setting returns to the default value. - In order to print from Lotus AmiPro 3.1 using the Sharp AR-PB9 printer drivers, background printing must be disabled. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
