Description of Driver Installation Files ======================================== The latest versions of these files are contained in the Support section of the AdvanSys web site (www.advansys.com). WIN2k.TXT This installation instruction file DISKW Windows 2000 diskette identification file TXTSETUP.OEM Driver setup script file: for use during the text setup phase of Windows 2000 installation. ADV.INF Driver setup script file: for use during the Windows phase of Windows 2000 installation, or for installing drivers during normal operations of Windows 2000. ADV.SYS AdvanSys UW/U2W/U3W SCSI Adapter Win2K driver Creating the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette ==================================================== NOTE: You can skip this step if you have the AdvanSys release diskette. It is already set up as a driver diskette to allow you to install the AdvanSys driver. To create a driver diskette for installing the AdvanSys Driver to a new or existing Windows 2000 (Win2K) system, copy all of the Win2K driver files (DISKW, TXTSETUP.OEM, ADV.INF, ADV.SYS) to the top directory of a DOS formatted floppy diskette. Label the diskette "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" and also record the driver version number for future references. New Windows 2000 Installation ============================= During the text phase of the Windows 2000 setup, the setup program will ask if you would like to install support for SCSI or RAID type devices. Indicate Yes (by pressing the F6 key). The setup program will then allow you to use a device support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer (press the S key). When asked to insert a manufacturer-supplied hardware support disk, insert the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette. After the Windows 2000 setup has scanned for drivers, you will be able to select the SCSI adapter you want to install. Existing Windows 2000 installation ================================== **** Installing new SCSI Host Adapter **** After you have physically install the Adapter into your computer, turn on the computer. Windows 2000 will detect the new device during startup. Use the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette when prompted for drivers or drivers location. **** Upgrading drivers on existing SCSI Host Adapter **** Right click once on the "My Computer" icon. This brings up a menu. Click on the "Properties" menu item. Select the "Hardware" tab on the System Properties dialog box. Click the "Device Manager..." button. In the Device Manager dialog box, you will see a "SCSI and RAID controllers" item. That is if you had indeed install such devices on your system. Expand the item by clicking on the small "+" sign. The AdvanSys SCSI adapter should appear under the expanded view. Doubleclick on the AdvanSys SCSI Adapter item and select the "Driver" tab on the new dialog box that comes up. Click the "Update Driver..." button. This brings up the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Select the recommended choice of letting the Wizard search for a suitable driver. To use the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette, tell the Wizard to also search on Floppy disk drives. After searching for available drivers, the Wizard will allow you to view all the drivers it found if you select the "Install one of the other drivers" check box and click Next. In the driver list box, scroll all the way to the right so that you can see the location of the Adv.Inf setup script file. You may see OEMx.inf (where x is a number) instead of Adv.Inf if you have previously used the Adv.Inf in an installation: Windows makes a copy and renames the Inf file for its own use. Windows will not show Adv.Inf if it detects that it is identical to the local copy (OEMx.inf). Select the driver with the most recent Inf file (Adv.Inf or the OEMx.Inf with the largest number for x). For example, assuming you are using a new Adv.Inf setup script file on the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette, which you have inserted into drive A:, select the driver item with the entry "a:\adv.inf" (scroll to right on the driver list box to see the complete entry). Click Next to continue. The Adv.Inf (or OEMx.Inf) file will tell Windows where to copy the drivers from. Follow the Wizard's instructions for the rest of the installation. Determining the AdvanSys Driver Version ======================================= To determine the version number of the AdvanSys Windows 2000 driver, do the following... Right click once on the "My Computer" icon. Click the "Driver Details..." button. The file version will then be displayed.
