============================================================
I. INTRODUCTION
This Readme file contains special information relating
to the following items:
- Application Notes
- Connectivity
- Error Messages
- Printer Driver
- Status Display
============================================================
II. APPLICATION NOTES
1. Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 -- Dashed lines may not be
imaged when printing PDF files. Upgrade to Acrobat
Reader 5.0 or higher to resolve this problem.
2. CorelDRAW -- When printing a file to letter-size
media, select Fit to Paper in the Output Paper
Size section on the Paper tab. If you do not
select Fit to Paper, the image will be cut off
on one side.
3. DOS -- The DOS copy and print commands are not
supported.
4. MS Internet Explorer 5.0 -- A SPOOL32 crash may
occur when printing web pages containing Java-
related data. Upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.5 or
higher.
5. MS Internet Explorer 6.0 (Window 98/Me) -- A band
may be imaged when printing web pages containing CSS
(Cascading Style Sheet) Level 1 objects.
6. MS Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x -- Some graphics (GIF)
may not be imaged properly.
7. MS Word -- When you open an existing Word document,
Word passes its default media size on to the printer
driver rather than using the media size specified
for the document.
Therefore, if you want to scale a document defined
for one media size to print on another media size,
use the following procedure:
i. In Word go to File/Page Setup and check the
media size.
ii. In Word go to File/Print and choose the
printer's Properties button.
iii. On the printer driver's Paper tab, identify the
Original Document Size (the media size
installed in the tray), and then select Fit to
Paper.
============================================================
III. CONNECTIVITY
1. Parallel -- For best printing performance through
the parallel port, use the ECP port setting.
2. Parallel (Windows XP)--If you do not enter a user
name and password when logging onto the PC,
communication between the PC and the printer may be
interrupted. Enter a user name and password every
time you log onto the PC to resolve this problem.
3. USB -- If the PC is started before the printer is,
the printer status may be offline. Unselect the "Use
Printer Offline" printer setting to resolve this
problem (Choose Start>Settings>Printers [and Faxes]
and then right-click on the printer icon).
============================================================
IV. ERROR MESSAGES
1. Invalid Printer Name -- An error message may be
displayed when installing the printer driver.
Remove any spaces from the beginning or end of the
printer name text string to resolve this problem.
============================================================
V. PRINTER DRIVER
1. Canceling Job -- If the printing job is canceled by
cancel button, print speed of next job may slow down.
2. Canceling Job -- If a paper jam occurs and you have
canceled printing job by pushing panel button,
the next job on the printer spooler may also get canceled.
3. Collation -- In order to collate multiple copies of a
duplex print job with Booklet Left Binding or
Booklet Right Binding selected as the Duplex/Booklet
option on the Setup tab, select collation in the
printer driver only. Do not select collation in the
application. This will cause the pages to print out
of order.
4. Easy Set -- If you choose Easy Set defaults on tabs
other than the Paper tab, the scaling and copies
settings may not be set to the default. Set the
defaults on the Paper tab to resolve this problem.
5. Installation (USB) -- Due to a Windows limitation, you
are required to specify the location of the printer
driver twice.
6. Installation (Windows XP) -- Due to a Windows
limitation, when a second PagePro 1300W printer
driver is installed, the printer name in the Printers
folder is identified as (Copy 1) rather than
(Copy 2).
7. Installation (Windows 2000) -- If the printer driver
is installed by Plug and Play under Windows 2000,
the installer may try to install files for Windows
XP. This does not cause a problem since the files
for Windows 2000 and Windows XP are identical.
8. Jam Recovery -- If a media jam occurs while you are
printing large jobs, the currently printing job may
not be recovered.
9. Jam Recovery -- If a media jam occurs while you are
manually duplexing the back of a sheet of paper,
the printer cancels the currently printing job. If
this occurs, you should reprint both sides.
10. Job order -- If a print job is canceled and other jobs
have been spooled, the order of the other jobs may be
changed.
11. Network setting -- This printer does not support
network install or printer sharing.
12. Overlays -- Overlay files must be printed at the same
resolution at which they were created. In other
words, if you create an overlay file at 600 dpi, any
documents with which you use this overlay should
also be printed at 600 dpi. If you print the overlay
at a different resolution, it is automatically
resized and, therefore, placed incorrectly on the
printed pages.
13. Overlays -- Overlay files (*.prn) must be created with
a PagePro 1300W driver. If you try to use an overlay
file created with another driver, the file will not
print.
14. Overlays -- Printing a file with an overlay uses twice
the virtual memory of regular printing. Therefore, it
is recommended that you increase your PC's virtual
memory.
15. Printer Port (Windows 98/Me) -- Do not delete the USB
port while the PagePro 1300W printer driver is
installed.
16. Scaling (Windows 98/Me) -- If the scaling is set to
over 199%, blank page(s) may be printed. Choose a
lower driver resolution or scaling percentage to
resolve this problem.
17. Uninstallation -- If you uninstall the printer
driver, you must restart the PC to complete the
uninstallation. Otherwise, some files are locked by
the Windows operating system and therefore cannot be
deleted.
18. Installation -- When the printer driver of
PagePro 1300W is already installed, if you reinstall
overwrite the printer driver of PagePro 1300W, a setup
of PagePro 1300W Properties on application may not be
reflected. Restart the PC to resolve this problem.
============================================================
VI. STATUS DISPLAY
1. Autocontinue setting -- The Autocontinue setting in
the Maintenance window may be automatically enabled or
disabled when a size error occurs. It is recommended
that you reset Autocontinue in the Maintenance
window whenever a size error occurs.
2. "Fuser Jam" message -- The Status Display displays a
"Fuser Jam" error message if the printer's top cover
is opened when the printer is turned on.
3. "Port Busy" message -- The Status Display may display
a "Port Busy" status when the printer driver is
sending data to the printer. However, the status
should update itself when the driver finishes sending
data.
4. "Printer not Attached" message -- The Status Display
always looks for the default printer. Therefore, if
the printer is not set up as the default printer,
you receive a "Printer not attached" error message
even if the printer is connected and turned on.
5. User Account(Windows 2000/XP) -- The Status Display
displays "Fatal Spooler Error" when you are logged on
as User Authority. Log on as Power User or
Administrator Authority to resolve this problem.
