information regarding the Canon Camera WIA Driver for Windows
XP. Please read carefully before using this driver.

1. General Issues 

* When you connect the camera and select a program in [Select which
program to start] from the [Canon Camera] dialog box, you may not be
able to copy images to that program. In this case, select the device
called [WIA-Canon Camera] with the selected program and copy the
images.

* You may not be able to copy images when the camera is connected, and
the program runs if you selected [Start this program] in [Actions] in
the [Canon (Camera Model Name) Properties]. In this case, select the
device called [WIA-Canon Camera] with the running program and copy the
images.

* You cannot copy RAW images or movies using the [WIA-Canon
Camera]. To copy RAW images or movies, use the application software
that came with the camera.


2. Issues with the [Scanner and Camera Wizard]

* If you rotate an image using the [Scanner and Camera Wizard], the
image information and other data may be partially or completely
lost. To rotate the image correctly, use the application software that
came with the camera.

* Images taken in portrait (vertical position) or that have been
rotated in the camera may be copied in the incorrect rotation. In this
case, use the application software that came with the camera to rotate
and copy the image again.

* When you copy an image, the thumbnail may be displayed in the
incorrect rotation.

* When you copy a RAW image or movie, the thumbnail file is not
copied.  To copy the thumbnail file also, use the application software
that came with the camera.


3. Issues Related to Viewing and Copying Camera Images from [My
Computer]

* When showing the image list, the image list may not display
correctly.  In this case, refresh the display by selecting [Refresh]
from the [View] menu.

* You cannot preview a RAW image. To preview a RAW image, use the
application software that came the camera.

* You cannot preview a movie. For movie previews, copy the images to
the computer and then preview.

* When you copy a RAW image or movie, the thumbnail file is not
copied.  To copy the thumbnail file also, use the application software
that came with the camera.


4. Issues Related to Using Multiple Canon Cameras

* If your current driver stops functioning correctly as a result of
installing the Canon Camera WIA Driver for use with another camera
model, follow the process below to re-install.
  
* Turn off the camera for which the Canon Camera WIA Driver has
stopped functioning properly.

* Restart your computer.

* Connect the camera for which the Canon Camera WIA Driver has stopped
functioning normally and turn the camera on.

* Do not use the camera's icon that is shown at this time. If the
[Scanner and Camera Wizard] or other application software or windows
are running, exit them as is.

* Select [Control Panel] from the [Start] menu to display the [Control
Panel].

* If [Switch to Classic View] is displayed in the upper right corner
of the [Control Panel], click to change to the classic view.

* Select [System] from [Control Panel] to display the [System
Properties].

* Select the [Hardware] tab from [System Properties], click the
[Device Manager] button to display the [Device Manager].

* Open [Imaging Devices] from the [Device Manager] to display the icon
of the camera that is connected.

* Right-click the camera's icon to display the menu and select
[Uninstall].

* Turn off the camera.

* Restart the computer.

* Turn the camera on again.

* The Canon Camera WIA Driver is read again, and the process is
complete.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
