Upgrading to V.90 Version V.5.16 Follow the steps listed below to ensure the best and proper installation of the V.90 upgrade. Place a copy of the unzipped contents of the V90_516i.ZIP file onto a floppy disk to create an installation diskette. ******************************************************************** ********************* DO THIS STEP FIRST *********************** ******************************************************************** #1 From the Win 95 "Device Manager" or "Modem Properties" dialog box, you will need to "Remove" the current installation of the "Rapid Transit 56K ISA Modem" or "56K V90 ISA Modem" ******************************************************************** ******************************************************************** ******************************************************************** #2 Delete the file LTMODEM.INF from the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory **Note1: Depending on which build of Win 95 you have installed on your system. The file may have been renamed LTLTMODEM.INF. **Note2: Depending on which version of Windows you are running. The files may be located in one of the following directories: Win 95a (OSR-1) C:\Windows\INF Win 95b (OSR-2) C:\Windows\INF\Other Win 95c (OSR-2.5) C:\Windows\INF\Other Win 98 C:\Windows\INF\Other **Note3: If you are running Win 95a or Win 98 on your system. The file may have be in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. The file may have been renamed OEMxx.INF. In which case you may have to examine each file named OEMxx.INF in order to determine which is the correct .INF file #3 Delete the file LTWAVE.INF from the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory. **Note1: Depending on which build of Win 95 you have installed on your system. The file may have been renamed LTLTWAVE.INF. **Note2: Depending on which version of Windows you are running. The files may be located in one of the following directories: Win 95a (OSR-1) C:\Windows\INF Win 95b (OSR-2) C:\Windows\INF\Other Win 95c (OSR-2.5) C:\Windows\INF\Other Win 98 C:\Windows\INF\Other **Note3: If you are running Win 95a or Win 98 on your system. The file may have be in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. The file may have been renamed OEMxx.INF. In which case you may have to examine each file named OEMxx.INF in order to determine which is the correct .INF file. #4 Run the A:\PREPSYS.BAT FILE The PREPSYS.BAT file is a simple Batch file which will attempt to locate key modem driver components in the C:\Windows\System directory. This is normally the default name given to the directory which is created at the time Windows was first installed to your system. The Batch file will then delete these files from the system in preparation for the new drivers. **Note1: If you have recently upgraded your version of Windows or have a custom installation. The directory may have a different name, such as; C:\Win95\System or similar name. If this is the case you may see the message; "File Not Found" If this occurs you can perform a "Search" for and delete the files listed below. This is the same function performed by the PREPSYS.BAT file. Provided the files are located in the C:\Windows\System directory. LTMODEM.VXD LTCOM.VXD LTVCD.VXD LTDSVD.DLL This essentially is the same function performed by the PREPSYS.BAT file. Provided the files are located in the C:\Windows\System directory. #5 Reboot your system, when Windows prompts for a driver disk insert the newly created driver disk into the A: drive. **Note1: If the file V90_516i.ZIP was unzipped into a directory on the hard drive, rather than to a floppy disk. You must tell Windows what directory the driver files are located. **Note2: If windows does not prompt for a driver disk, then it is possible that copies of the old driver files are still present on the system. If so, you should perform the installation again from Step #1. If after performing the installation, windows still does not ask for a driver disk. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
