MULTICSS.TXT Driver File Contents (multi231.zip)

This file describes the Installation of the Apex MultiCard when using
Phoenix, CardSoft, and IBM Card and Socket Service Drivers.

Overview
We suggest that you print this file out and read through it
before you try it. This is a simple, but sophisticated procedure.
We expect the people who try this to be experienced computer and
network users. If you are uncomfortable doing these things or
if these steps don't make sense, perhaps you should find someone
who is more comfortable following these instructions.

MULTICARD WITH PHOENIX CARD SERVICES VERSION 3.0

1. Install the Phoenix card services, telling Phoenix not to install for
a modem and reboot the system. If you have already installed an
older version of Phoenix C&SS, re-install with version 3.0.

2. Run the Apex Multicard installation program and select an appropriate
shared IRQ (the default is 5 but another IRQ like 11 may work better
on some notebooks). Write down the memory address you selected
	and shared IRQ selected.

3. The MultiCard install will edit the CONFIG.SYS file and REM out the
	following line: DEVICE=C:\PCM3\PCMSCD.EXE

9. Reboot the system. The Multicard driver APEXEM.SYS should properly
	load.

10.If using an advanced memory manager like QEMM, RAMBOOST, MEMMAKER,
etc. it may be necessary to execute additional steps in order to
properly exclude the memory region which the Multicard uses in order
to operate. Please consult your memory manager user's manual for
	instructions on excluding memory regions.

MULTICARD WITH SYSTEMSOFT'S CARDSOFT SOCKET SERVICES VER. 3.1.

1. Run the Apex installation utility normally. Write down the settings being
used for the Shared IRQ and Memory Window.

2. Edit the memory manager line in the CONFIG.SYS file and exclude a
20kb block of memory starting at the address selected during the
installation process. The default memory address is D800-DCFF.
The installation utility will automatically edit the line
containing EMM386.EXE. If another memory manager is being used,
it will have to be adjusted manually.
	Example:
		Device=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D800-DCFF

3. Reboot the system. After the system is rebooted, change into the
directory that contains the Cardsoft drivers onyour hard disk.
Edit the file CSALLOC.INI by adding the following 2 lines at
	the bottom of the file.

IrqInclude = 5 (or whatever IRQ was selected for shared int)
MemInclude = D800-DCFF (or whatever memory region was selected)

Save these changes to the file.

4. Reboot the system. The Multicard driver should now say Multicard
	ready for use.

5. If using an advanced memory manager like QEMM, RAMBOOST, MEMMAKER
etc. it may be necessary to execute additional steps in order to
properly exclude the memory region which the Multicard needs in order
to operate. Please consult your memory manager user's manual for
	instructions on excluding memory regions.

MULTICARD WITH IBM'S EASY PLAYING DRIVERS VERSION 2.00.

1. Run the Apex installation utility normally. Write down the settings being
	used for the Memory Window.

	Example:
		Device=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D800-DCFF

3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file so that the APEXEM.SYS driver loads before
	the AUTODRV.SYS file.
	Example:
	...
	  Device=C:\APEXEM\APEXEM.SYS /C=C:\APEXEM\APEXEM /F=C:\APEXEM\NET.CFG
	  Device=C:\THINKPAD\AUTODRV.SYS /C:\THINKPAD\AUTODRV.INI
	...

4. Modify the IBM driver in the CONFIG.SYS so that it includes the
memory region that the card is using.
	Example:
	Change DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\DICRMU01.SYS /MA=C800-CFFF
	TO DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\DICRMU01.SYS /MA=C800-DCFF

5. Save the modified CONFIG.SYS file.

6. Reboot the system. The Multicard driver should now say Multicard
	ready for use.
