Installing ScanWizard under Windows NT V3.5.1 (Build 1057) Important: In order to install the ScanWizard software, you must be logged in as an administrator or have administrator-level access to the system files. A. Installing the interface card ------------------------------------------------ If you already have a functioning Adaptec card in your computer, go to step B. If you are installing the Adaptec 1502E card in your computer for the first time, do the following: 1. Start up your computer and double-click Windows NT Diagnostics from the Administrative Tools group file. 2. Click on the IRQ/Port Status... button. 3. Look at the second column under LEVEL. The numbers in this column are the Interrupt levels currently used by your computer. o Find number 11. If 11 is not in the list, this means it’s available, so set the jumper on the Adaptec 1502E to I 11 (for Interrupt 11). Then close all menus. Next, turn off the computer and physically install the card in an empty slot on your computer. For details on how to set the jumper on the card, refer to the Microtek Scanner Installation Guide. o If Interrupt 11 show up in the list (meaning it’s taken), you must remove a device from your computer that is using Interrupt 11, thereby freeing it up for the Adaptec 1502E. 4. Start Windows NT again, then run Windows NT Setup in the Main group by double-clicking it. 5. From the Options menu, choose Add/Remove SCSI Adapter. 6. Click on Add. From the list that appears, select Adaptec 151x/152x/AIC 6260/6360. 7. Click on Install. When asked if you want to overwrite the current drivers, click Current, or use your WinNT CD-ROM to add the drivers to your computer. Then close the menus and the Setup program. 8. Shut down your computer and restart it. Installation of the Adaptec 1502E under Windows NT is now completed. See the important additional notes in the next column for possible conflicts. B. Installing the software (For first-time users only; if installing upgrades, see Section C. ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you install ScanWizard under Windows NT, the CDSETUP program will give you the option to install four software programs. Deselect the EZ-SCSI option (so that EZ-SCSI is NOT installed), then go ahead and install the other three software. After installing the software on your computer, use Windows Notepad.exe to edit the WIN.INI file. To do this: 1. From Program Manager, choose File, then Run. 2. Type WIN.INI and click OK. 3. Add the following two lines below to the WIN.INI file, then save the file and exit. [Twain] Default Source=c:\winnt35\twain_32\scanwiz\scanwz32.ds Important Notes: o There should be a space between the words "Default" and Source" and then no embedded spaces after the word "Source". "D" and "S" (in "Default" and "Source") are uppercase, but all other letters should be lowercase. o If your Windows NT is installed in a directory other than "winnt35" as stated in the path above, you must specify the correct directory in the path. 4. Note only for those who have the red CD-ROM: To install the Ulead PhotoImpact 3.0 SE software on the CD-ROM, you need to manually execute the Install program. To do this, choose File, then Run from Program Manager, and type D:\UPI3SE\SETUP.EXE, and click OK. C. Installing ScanWizard as an upgrade ----------------------------------------------------------------- Before installing a new version of ScanWizard, you need to delete the old ScanWizard software. Only then should you install the upgrade. Follow these steps: 1. Go to MS-DOS (command prompt). 2. From the c:prompt, type cd\winnt35\twain_32. 3. Type: deltree scanwiz. Then press the Enter key. 4. Press Y, then the Enter key. 5. Type: del twain_32.dll. Then press Enter. 6. Go to Section B for instructions on installing ScanWizard. Additional Notes when installing -------------------------------------------- the Adaptec 1502E Problems have been reported when installing the Adaptec 1502E on computers equipped with the plug and play (PNP) bios and when another PNP card is already in the computer. To avoid conflicts: Go to the setup program of your computer. In the PNP section of the setup, set Interrupt 11 to the setting "Used by an ISA card". By informing the system that Interrupt 11 is being used, the bios will not install this particular interrupt for the other plug-and-play cards in your system. Otherwise, your computer may crash every time you start up.Download Driver Pack
