WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF MICROTEK SCANNING!

Thank you for purchasing a Microtek ScanMaker series scanner!
Please take the time to locate the printed installation guide
in your scanner box.  It is very important that you follow
the correct installation steps for either Windows 95 or
Windows 3.1x.

Please read the following important notes about this CD:

WINDOWS NT USERS

For important installation information regarding Windows NT,
please exit this program and follow the instructions in 
the WINNT.TXT file located on the root directory of this CD ROM.
Run Windows Wordpad or Notepad and open d:\winnt.txt where 
d: is your CD ROM drive letter.

WINDOWS 95 USERS

If you have AutoPlay enabled, the software installer should
have come up automatically seconds after you inserted this CD.  
If you did not see the Microtek installer program on your screen,
click "Start", select "Run..." and type 
D:\CDSETUP.EXE
(where D: is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive)
and follow the instructions on the screen.

WINDOWS 3.1x USERS

To install the software contained on this CD, choose Run 
from the Program Manager FILE menu, and type
D:\CDSETUP.EXE
(where D: is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive).
and follow the instructions on the screen.


A QUICK TOUR OF THE SOFTWARE ON THIS CD

\SCANWIZ: This directory contains Microtek's own ScanWizard 
          scanner controller software which allows you to
          activate your scanner from any TWAIN compatible
          software.  The ScanWizard User Guide is located in
          the MANUAL subdirectory and is provided in an
          Adobe Acrobat document file format (PDF).
          
\EZSCSI: This directory contains the Adaptec EZ-SCSI Lite program.
         This is the Windows 3.1x driver for the Adaptec 1502E
         SCSI card that came with your scanner.
         (not necessary for Windows 95 installation)

\UPI3SE: This directory contains Ulead PhotoImpact 3.0 SE 32-bit image
         editing software for Windows 95 and Ulead ImagePals
         2 Go! 16-bit image editing software for Windows 3.1x.  Both of
         these programs are designed to provide easy, yet 
         powerful tools for editing and archiving scanned images.
         Be sure to check the online manual in the DOCUMENT\MANUALS\UPI3 
         subdirectory for complete operating instructions.  ImagePals 2
         Go! is located in the \UPI3SE\IP2GO subdirectory.

\OPLIMIT: This directory contains Caere OmniPage Limited Edition 
          4.0 Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software.  Use this
          for scanning text documents that you want to edit or
          save with your word processor.  Be sure to check the
          online manual in the \DOCS subdirectory of OPLIMIT on your 
          hard drive or CD ROM for complete operating instructions.

\ACROREAD: This directory contains the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
           This software must be installed separately in order
           to read or print out online documentation (.pdf files).

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

MICROTEK SCANWIZARD INFORMATION
After installing Microtek ScanWizard software, please double click
the Read-Me icons located in the Microtek ScanWizard program group.
These files contain any last-minute changes or troubleshooting tips.
You may want to print these out to keep for later reference.  

ADOBE ACROBAT READER
To read on-line documentation for ScanWizard, PhotoImpact SE, or 
ImagePals 2 Go, you must install Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Run acroread.exe in the ACROREAD directory to install this utility.

    WINDOWS 95 USERS click "Start", select "Run..." and type
    D:\ACROREAD\ACROREAD.EXE
    (where D: is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive) 

    WINDOWS 3.1x USERS go to Program Manager.  Click "File", select
    "Run" and type
    D:\ACROREAD\ACROREAD.EXE
    (where D: is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive)

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
