This file describes normal display driver installation procedures for
Windows 9x.

Windows 95 Display Driver Installation Procedure

1.  Click "Start", point to "Settings", and click "Control Panel".
2.  Double-click the "Display" icon. 
3.  Click "Settings" [tab] and then click "Advanced Properties".
4.  Select the "Adapter" tab and click "Change".
5.  Click "Have Disk" and then click "OK".
6.  Specify the path to the new driver in one of the following ways and then 
    press <ENTER>:

	Example 1: Enter A:\.

	Example 2: Type in the name of the directory to which you copied the 
	drivers, either on your local hard drive or on a network share.

	Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are, choose 
	the "Browse..." button to find them.
7.  At the "Select Device" dialog box, select the adapter that corresponds to 
    the one you installed on your system and click "OK".
8.  Windows  copies the drivers to the appropriate directories on your system.
9.  Continue clicking "Close" until you are prompted to restart the system.
10. Restart the system.
11. After you restart the system, you can return to the "Display" icon and 
    select alternate screen resolutions and color depths.

Windows 98 Display Driver Installation Procedure
1.  Click "Start", point to "Settings", and click "Control Panel".
2.  Double-click the "Display" icon. 
3.  Click "Settings" [tab] and then click "Advanced" {button}.
4.  Click the "Adapter" tab, and then click "Change".
    The Update Device Driver Wizard appears and NeoMagic MagicGraph 256ZX is 
    selected.
5.  Click "Next", click "Search for a better driver than the one your device is 
    using now (Recommended)", and then click "Next".
    The Update Device Wizards displays a message asking where to search for the 
    new driver.
6.  Specify the path to the new driver in one of the following ways and then 
    press <ENTER>:

	Example 1: If installing from the "Floppy drive", leave only the Floppy 
	drive box checked, all others should be unchecked.

	Example 2: If installing from the hard drive, uncheck the "Floppy 
	drive" box, then check the "Specify a location" box, click the "Browse" 
	button.  Type in the name of the directory to which you copied the 
	drivers, either on your local hard drive or on a network share.  

8.  Click "Next" to select the driver in the directory selected above.
9.  Select "Install one of the drivers", click on "View List".
10. Verify the driver called NeoMagic MagicGraph 256ZX is highlighted and click 
    "OK".
11. Click "Next" to begin copying the files.
12. The following message is displayed: Please insert the disk labeled 'Win95 
    NeoMagic Driver Disk', click "OK".
13. If a Copying Files screen appears, click "Browse".
14. Select the same directory mentioned in step 6, and click "OK".
15. When prompted, click "Finish" to install the NeoMagic driver.
16. When prompted to reboot the computer, click "Yes".
17. After you restart the system, you can return to the "Display" icon and 
    select alternate screen resolutions and color depths.

Enabling the Dual Display feature on your Latitude system under Windows 98

If you have an extra monitor, you can attach it to the back of your Dell 
Latitude to make your desktop even larger in Windows 98. 

1.  Click on the "Start" button.
2.  Select "Settings".
3.  From the menu on the right of Settings, select "Control Panel".
4.  In the "Control Panel", open "Display".
5.  Click on the "Settings" tab of the Display Properties box.			
6.  Make sure that the display settings are not set to both "1024 by 768 pixels" 
    and "True Color (24-bit), as this does not leave enough memory for the 
    dual display mode.
7.  Click on the "Advanced..." button.
8.  From the NeoMagic MagicMedia 256ZX Properties box select the "NeoMagic" tab.
9.  On the bottom left of the screen there is a checkbox that says "Set Dual 
    Display", place a checkmark in it.
10. The system will display a System settings change box asking you to restart 
    Windows.  Select "Yes".
11. When the system finishes booting, open the "Display Properties" box again.
12. Click on the "Settings" tab of the "Display Properties" box.
13. A second display should be present in the box.  
14. Click on the display that is grayed out.
15. The system will ask you if you want to enable that display, select "Yes".
16. Then select either "Ok" or "Apply" and the secondary display should now be 
    enabled.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
