I.  Overview
=======================================================================

A. WINDOWS SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

	Pentium or compatible 400mhz x86 CPU
	128mb of RAM
	15mb of installation space
	Windows XP, or 2003
	Aureal 8830 Chipset sound card
   	Visual C++ 6.0 or later (for A3D 3.0 SDK development)

B.  NEW FEATURES:
     This section lists new features incorporated into the Vortex 
     drivers.
	
	A3D 3.0 support (Stereo output only)
	DirectSound 7.0 support for WDM (Stereo support only)
	S/PDIF support (Stereo support only)
	Working Aureal Toolkit (requires Patch file be installed)
	New 4mb Wavetable Soundfont (port of Creative's 4mb soundfont
	file)
	General Midi provides support for DOS-Box/Command-Line
	applications (XP/2k3 only)
	SQ3500 Turbo DSP module support

C.  WINDOWS DRIVER ISSUES:

 	No Quad speaker support

	No EAX 1.0/2.0/3.0 extension support

	No IDL2S extension support

	No ZoomFX or Sensura3D extension support

	Driver was only developed for NT 5.x based systems (9x/ME
	systems may have problems with these drivers)

	Aureal Wavetable has poor sound quality sometimes. Only
	solution is to adjust volume levels after starting 
	applications.

	S/PDIF output is PCM only (no AC3 support)

	For Windows 98SE and ME you only need to follow the
	installation section of the same document.

	See the Install.doc included for installation.

B.  UNINSTALLING THE DRIVERS

	Launch the Aureal Uninstaller from the Add/Remove Program in 
	the Windows Control Panel.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
