WINDOWS XP INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR HARMONY 802.11B & RANGELAN-DS PC CARDS

This README file describes how to install the Windows XP software for the
following Proxim 802.11b PC Cards:
--Harmony 802.11b PC Card Model 8432
	--RangeLAN-DS PC Card Model 8433

Section A describes how to install the 802.11b PC Card in a Windows XP computer.
Section B describes how to change the card's Authentication Algorithm to "Shared
Key" for networks that use WEP for Authentication and Encryption.
Section C describes how to contact Proxim Technical Support.

SECTION A: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Follow these steps to install the 802.11b PC Card in a computer running Windows XP:

1. Look at the label on the underside of your 802.11b PC Card. The label should
indicate your card's voltage: 3.3V or 5V. Most 802.11b PC Cards are 3.3V,
although a small number of customers received 5V cards. Make a note of your card's
voltage before continuing.

2. Download 11BXP.ZIP from Proxim's Web site and copy it to a folder.

3. Use an unzip utility to extract out the installation files from 11BXP.ZIP.

4. Open the UTILITY subfolder.

5. Double-click SETUP.EXE to launch the utility installation.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the utility.

7. After the installation is complete, insert the 802.11b PC Card into
the computer.

8. The Found New Hardware Wizard will launch automatically. Select "Install from a
list or specific location (Advanced)" and click <Next>.

9. Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" and click <Next>.

10. Select "Network adapters" from the list of common hardware types.

11. Click <Have Disk...> within the Select Network Adapter screen.

12. Enter the location of the files you extracted from 11BXP.ZIP or click <Browse>
and use the drop-down menus to locate the files.

NOTE: Point the installation wizard to look for the driver in the folder that
contains WLANNIC.INF. Do not point the wizard to search the WINXP sub-folder.

13. Select your card type (3V or 5V) from the list of adapters. If you have a
3.3V card, choose "IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN/PC Card (3V)" from the list of adapters;
if you have a 5V card, choose "IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN/PC Card (5V)" from the list
of adapters.

14. Click <Next> after you have selected your card type.

15. Click <Yes> when prompted that installing the driver is not recommended.

16. Click <Continue Anyway> when prompted that the driver has not passed Windows
Logo testing.

17. Click <Finish> when the installation is complete.

NOTE: Windows XP may give you the opportunity to run the Network Setup Wizard. Run
this wizard if desired. Otherwise, click the X to close the message window.

18. Launch the Wireless LAN Utility from the Windows Start Menu. If you installed
the utility using the default settings, you can find the utility at
Start > Programs > WLAN > Wireless LAN Utility.

19. Click the Wireless LAN Utility icon in the Windows Taskbar to open the utility.
The icon appears as five bars of increasing height.

20. Use the Wireless LAN Utility to configure the 802.11b PC Card to communicate
with your network. If your network uses Shared Key Authentication, see Section B
below for important configuration information.

NOTE: You must click <Apply> for any changes to take effect.

SECTION B: SHARED KEY AUTHENTICATION

By default, the 802.11b PC Card uses Open System Authentication. If your 802.11b
network uses "WEP for Encryption and Authentication", then you need to change the card's
Authentication Algorithm to Shared Key Authentication before the card will associate
with one of your Access Points.

NOTE: The 802.11b PC Card does not support the Harmony 802.11b Access Point's Use WEP
for Authentication Only option.

Follow these steps to change the card's Authentication Algorithm to "Shared Key":

1. Open the Control Panel's Network Connections icon.

2. Double-click the LAN connection that corresponds to the 802.11b PC Card.

3. Click <Configure> within the connection's Properties screen.

4. Click the Advanced tab.

5. Select "Authentication Algorithm" from the left-hand column and change its value to
"Shared Key".

6. Click <OK>.
