August 07, 2001 ------------------------------------------------------------------ PSC706 WDM Driver Installation Instructions =========================================== You may want to print this file before initiating the install. 1. Download the Self-Extracting exe file to a location (folder or desktop) on your computer. Be sure to remember this location for use during the install process. 2. Locate and double click the self-extracting exe file you just downloaded. The WinZip Self-Extractor application will open. 3. Click on "Unzip" in the WinZip Self-Extractor pop-up window. NOTE: The PSC driver files will be extracted and copied to a default folder, the folder will be named "PSC706_WDM_XXX_VXXX" Where: XXX = language = ENG (English) FRN (French) GER (German) ITN (ITALlAN) SPA (Spanish) DUT (DUTCH) CHS (CHINESE SIMPLIFIED) CHT (CHINESE TRADITIONAL) KOR (KOREAN) JPN (JAPANESE) FIN (FINNISH) SWE (SWEDISH) NOR (NORWEGIAN) VXXX = SOFTWARE VERSION # If desired, you can designate a different folder by clicking on "Browse" and selecting the desired folder. (Philips recommends using the default folder.) 4. After extracting the driver files, Close the WinZip Self-Extractor application. 5. Uninstall all audio drivers currently installed. For WDM driver removal first go to Device Manager and remove the "PSC706 Audio" and PSC706 Gameport Enumerator" entries under the "Sound,Video and Game Controller" tab. Click OK to exit Device Manager. Next go to Add/Remove Programs remove the entry "Philips PSC706 Support Files" Click OK to exit Add/Remove Programs. Reboot your computer. During the reboot process the Philips Sound Card will be recognized, this will start the PSC driver installation process. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have an audio device built into your motherboard you must disable it in BIOS. There may be 1 - 3 items in BIOS that must be disabled. Additionally there may be jumpers on the mother- board that have to be set to fully disable the on-board sound hardware. Refer to your Motherboard documentation and or the board manufacture for assistance. 7. Use the Browse button to point the Add "New Hardware Wizard" to the location of the driver files: I.E. C:\PSC706_WDM_XXX_VXXX. If you extracted the PSC driver files to a folder other than the default folder, point to that location by using the Browse button. 8. Click "OK". 9. You "MAY" be prompted to replace COMCTL32.DLL with an older file. Answer "Yes" to keep your existing file. You "MAY" be prompted to replace HH.EXE & HHCTRL.OCX with an older file. Answer "Yes" to keep your existing file. 10. You "MAY" be prompted to replace the following files: msanalog.vxd, vjoyd.vxd, and msjstick.drv. Answer "Yes" to these dialog boxes to keep existing files. 11. The Philips End User License Agreement will be displayed. You will be prompted to agree to the License Agreement. Answer "Yes",if you answer "No" the agreement will be displayed on each reboot of the PC. 12. Your installation is finished. You may at your discretion delete the downloaded file and the extracted driver files. We are experimenting with a work-around proposed by another IGX developer. - Microsoft bug in 98SE, AC3 option is greyed out unless 98SE QFE Q269601 is installed. - PowerDVD has a approx. one second delay when used with QFE Q269601. This line is required for WHQL - but, until we are WHQL certified, there isn't a .cat file available. This was causing problems with the install under 98SE, and the line was commented out in the INF for this release. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
