Wake On LAN (WOL) function statements 2.1 Overview The Wake on LAN function allows user to remotely wake up a sleeping or powered of PC on a network by sending a specific packet of information, called a Magic Packet frame, to a node on the network. When a PC capable of receiving the specific frame goes to sleep, it will enable the Magic Packet mode in the LAN controlle , and when the LAN controller receives a Magic Packet frame, it will alert the system to wake up. 2.2 System Requirements 1> Any kind of motherboard with Wake On LAN function support. 2> ATX Power Supply 3> This 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter or any one which supported Wake On LAN function which is accomplished by Magic Packet technology. 2.3 Configuration Tips 1> Connect Wake On LAN cable (optional) to 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter and your Mother Board's Wake On Lan connector. Note: If you have Motherboard with PCI 2.2 specification supported, you don't have to connect this Wake on LAN cable to 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter and your Mother Board's Wake On Lan connector. 2> Make sure Power Management item in BIOS is Enable 3> If Windows Environments used, check Control Panel-> Power Management-> Power Schemes, the Power Schemes CANNOT be "Always On" 2.4 Testing Method To perform Wake on LAN test, please prepare two PCs with 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter pluged in. Of course, two of the PCs should have WOL function and ATX power supported. And please check these two PCs are connected by 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter via a hub ( switch ) or a cross over UTP cable. 1> Connect WOL cable to 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter and motherboard. Note : If the motherboard support both PCI 2.1 and PCI 2.2 spec. , you can choose not to connect WOL cable to both ends. 2> Power on these two PC into pure MS-DOS. 3> Please find and execute SETUP.EXE from the driver diskette of 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter, and then select "Show Configuration", then you will see the card information on the screen, record the Ethernet Address. Note : If you want to copy SETUP.EXE to harddisk, please copy A:\ROMAN.FON to the same location of SETUP.EXE. 4> Power down one PC, which is going to be run WOL test. 5> Please find and execute SETUP.EXE from the driver diskette of 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter, and then select "Utility" -> "Transmit Magic Pkts" then Input the destination address, which means the Ethernet address of the 100/10M Ethernet PCI Adapter of the power down PC , with continous 12 Hexadecimal number, for example, 00002100123A , and then press <Enter> . 6> The power down PC will be waken up and power on. 3. User guide for SETUP.EXE This following illustrates the usage of the SETUP program. 3.1 There are five items in the main menu. (1). Show Configuration (2). Diagnose (3). Change Current Setting (4). Utility (5). On-line Help Press 'ENTER' to choose the item, 'ESC' to exit the program and use 'UP/DOWN ARROW' to scroll the items. 3.2 The usage of each item (1) Show Configuration Choose [Show Configuration] to look at the current PCI Lan Card Configuration. (2) Diagnose Choose [Diagnose] if you want to verify that your PCI Lan Card is working correctly. After entering [Diagnose], there is a sub-menu with two items. 1. Basic Diagnosis 2. Network Test (Tx/Rx) Choosing [Basic Diagnosis] will test NIC registers read/write, cable link status and MII loopback. Choosing [Nework Test (Tx/Rx)] will test the normal transmission and reception of this Lan Card . In this test, the card need to be attached on the Network. (3) Change Current Setting Choose [Change Current Setting] to setup new configuration of your PCI Lan Card. After entering [Change Current Setting], there is a sub-menu with two items. 1. BootROM Set 2. Power Management Function Set After choosing [BootROM Set], you can enable or disable the BootROM on this Land Card. After choosing [Power Management Function Set], you can change the power management capabilities of this Lan card , such as enable/disable the capability to receive magic packet. And you can set new power state of this Lan Card. Note: After you enable the capablity of receiving wake-Up frame , you can shoutdown the machine and transmit a wake-up frame from another machine to wake up this machine. (4) Utility After entering [Utility], there is a sub-menu with three items. 1. Transmit Magic Pkts Use this item to send magic packets to wake up another sleeping machine. 2. Transmit Wake-up Frames Use this item to send wake up frame to wake up another sleeping machine. Because the pattern of wake-up frame is user-defined, you need to input a file name which contains the packet. 3. Transmit Flow Control Pkts Use this item to send flow control packets to another machine. (5) On-line Help Choose [On-line Help] to see this usage of SETUP.EXE program. 4. User guide for drivers installation Please refer to the text files (*.TXT) in each driver subdirectory. ------------------------------ End of Readme.txt ---------------------------Download Driver Pack
