Release Notes ----------------- The Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement addresses shutdown issues on systems with specific hardware/software configurations running Windows 98 Second Edition. These issues include systems restarting when selecting shutdown and systems hanging on shutdown. The Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement updates PCI.VXD, APMBATT.SYS and VPOWERD.VXD. It also updates MSCONFIG.EXE to remove the Fast Shutdown checkbox. Microsoft has also learned that some customers were replacing the Windows 98 Second Edition version of CONFIGMG.VXD with the Windows 98 version to address shutdown issues. This update will check to see if the appropriate version of CONFIGMG.VXD is installed on the system and replace any older versions with the Windows 98 Second Edition version. 4756US8.EXE is the November 1999 release of the Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Update. Pre-Installation Notes --------------------- Useful Switches There are several installation switches available when installing the update. You can view these switches at any time by clicking Start, clicking Run, typing <package name>.exe /? and then clicking OK. Additional information on common command-line switches are available in http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q197/1/47.ASP. To use the optional installation switches below, type <package name>.exe <switch> /Q - Quiet mode (skips all user prompts) - Useful for silent installations in batch setups. /Q:A - Admin Quiet mode - Does not show any dialog boxes /T: <full path> - Specifies a temporary working folder. /C - Extract files only to the folder when used also with /T - Allows an administrator to download files into a specified location. /C: <cmd> - Override install command defined by author - Not used for this update. Common chaining command line for OEM preinstall is: <package name>.exe /q:a This command line option will install the package and surpress any dialog and reboot prompts. III. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
