======================================================== Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Initio Corporation ======================================================== Supported Adapters ================== The AdvanSys Windows 2000 Driver supports AdvanSys Host Adapter Cards listed below. ASB3902-00 - PCI (FAST) SCSI Host Adapter ASB3905-00 - PCI (FAST) SCSI Host Adapter ABP3922-00 - PCI (FAST) SCSI Host Adapter ABP3925-00 - PCI (FAST) SCSI Host Adapter ASB3940UA-00 - PCI (ULTRA) SCSI Host Adapter Description of Driver Installation Files ======================================== The latest versions of these files are contained in the Support section of the Initio web site (http://www.initio.com). w2kasc.txt This installation instruction file w2kasc.inf Driver setup script file: for use during the Windows phase of Windows 2000 installation, or for installing drivers during normal operations of Windows 2000. w2kasc.sys AdvanSys Fast/Ultra Narrow SCSI Adapter Win2K driver w2kasc.cat This is either the actual Digital Signature File, or when the Digital Signature File is not yet available, a place holder file. (Not essential for driver installation.) Creating the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette ==================================================== NOTE: You can skip this step if you have the AdvanSys release diskette. It is already set up as a driver diskette to allow you to install the AdvanSys driver. To create a driver diskette for installing the AdvanSys Driver to a new or existing Windows 2000 (Win2K) system, copy all of the Win2K driver files (w2kasc.inf, w2kasc.sys, w2kasc.cat) to the top directory of a DOS formatted floppy diskette. Label the diskette "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" and also record the driver version number for future references. New Windows 2000 Installation ============================= This is the instruction for installing Windows 2000 onto a new SCSI drive connected to the SCSI Adapter. The Windows NT setup can be started by booting from the "Windows 2000 Installation" diskettes, or by booting from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. (Booting from a SCSI CD-ROM requires that the CD-ROM is connected to a SCSI Adapter that has its CD Boot feature enabled: hit Ctrl-A when the SCSI Adapter BIOS banner shows up to see what features are enabled.) When the text phase of the Windows 2000 setup first appears, the setup will ask if you would like to install support for SCSI or RAID type devices. As driver support for the AdvanSys Fast/Ultra Narrow SCSI Adapter is already built into the Windows 2000 CD-ROM, you do not have to install additional drivers support for it. Existing Windows 2000 installation ================================== **** Installing new SCSI Host Adapter **** After you have physically install the Adapter into your computer, turn on the computer. Windows 2000 will detect the new device during startup. Use the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette when prompted for drivers or drivers location. **** Upgrading drivers on existing SCSI Host Adapter **** Double-click on the "My Computer" icon. Double-click on the "Control Panel" icon. Double-click on the "System" icon. Select the "Hardware" tab on the System Properties dialog box. Click the "Device Manager..." button. In the Device Manager dialog box, you will see a "SCSI and RAID controllers" item. That is if you had indeed install such devices on your system. Expand the item by clicking on the small "+" sign. The AdvanSys SCSI adapter should appear under the expanded view. Doubleclick on the AdvanSys SCSI Adapter item and select the "Driver" tab on the new dialog box that comes up. Click the "Update Driver..." button. This brings up the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Click "Next". Select the recommended choice of letting the Wizard search for a suitable driver. To use the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette, checkmark "Specify a location" and unmark the other choices. Click "Next". Enter "A:" into the edit box. Insert the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette into "A:" and click "OK". After searching for available drivers, the Wizard will display the location of a recommended driver setup script INF file. This INF file may or may not be the one on the diskette. If there is a checkbox choice for "Install one of the other drivers", checkmark it and click "Next" (otherwise, just click "Next" and follow the instructions from the Wizard). In the driver list box, scroll all the way to the right so that you can see the location of the w2kasc.Inf setup script file. You may see OEMx.inf (where x is a number) instead of w2kasc.Inf if you have previously used the w2kasc.Inf in an installation: Windows makes a copy and renames the Inf file for its own use. Windows will not show w2kasc.Inf if it detects that it is identical to the local copy (OEMx.inf). Select the driver with the most recent Inf file (w2kasc.Inf or the OEMx.Inf with the largest number for x). If you are determine to to use the w2kasc.Inf file and wanted it to be listed, you may have to cancel the current Wizard and restart the driver update procedure after removing the OEMx.inf files from their currently listed location. Now, assuming that the Wizard will list the w2kasc.Inf setup script file on the "Windows 2000 AdvanSys Driver" Diskette, which you have inserted into drive A:, select the driver item with the entry "a:\w2kasc.inf" (scroll to right on the driver list box to see the complete entry). Click Next to continue. The w2kasc.Inf (or OEMx.Inf) file will tell Windows where to copy the drivers from. Follow the Wizard's instructions for the rest of the installation. Note: If you encounter the "Digital Signature Not Found" dialog box, just click "Yes" to continue with the driver installation. Digital Signature (to be placed in w2kasc.cat) may not be available at the time the latest driver is first released. Determining the AdvanSys Driver Version ======================================= To determine the version number of the AdvanSys Windows 2000 driver, do the following... Double-click on the "My Computer" icon. Click the "Driver Details..." button. The file version will then be displayed.
