System hanging when loading software from the Millennium reference bundle with Hitachi 8x DVD Drive

Issue

When trying to load software from the Millennium reference bundle with Hitachi 8x DVD CD-Rom Drive, the computer may appear to hang.

Solution

1.	Leave the floppy disk in the floppy drive, and the computer will restart and come to an A:\> prompt.

2.	At the A:\> prompt, type the following -
	FLASHUP A:\5015G002.DLD X /A
where X is a number between 0 and 3, representing the Hitachi 8x DVD CD-Rom drive's position on the Hard Drive controller.

	Controller ID Position
	Primary IDE Master	0
	Primary IDE Slave	1
	Secondary IDE Master	2
	Secondary IDE Slave	3

If you are unsure as to which position the DVD CD-Rom drive is on the Hard Drive controller, follow these steps

3.	Restart the computer and at the initial Gateway logo, press the F1 key on the keyboard to enter the BIOS.

4.	When the blue BIOS screen appears use the right arrow key on the keyboard to go to the Advanced screen.

5.	On the Advance Screen will be an option IDE Configuration.

6.	Highlight this by using the down arrow and once highlighted, press enter.
The information displayed will be similar to the following –

	Controller ID Device Position
Primary IDE Master	WDC AC 22100 H 0
	Primary IDE Slave	[None] 1
Secondary IDE Master	Hitachi DVD ROM GD 5000 2
	Secondary IDE Slave	[None] 3

More Information

If after executing the command above, the following error appears –
	No Hitachi Drives Detected
this means the incorrect Hard Drive controller number was entered.

Repeat steps 3 to 6 above to check the position of the Hitachi DVD Rom drive on the Hard Drive controller.

Once the correct position has been noted, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
