The Windows Resource Manager does not always detect a conflict. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. KNOWN ISSUES 3.1 Aborting the installation of the Description: Aborting the PCI Enabler prior to completing the installation. Impact: Aborting the PCI Enabler prior to completing the installation may prevent your PCI adapter from working properly. This action may prevent you from using the "uninstall PCI Enabler" option via the "Add/Remove Programs" icon on the Control Panel to remove the PCI Enabler driver. Action: You are advised either to: * Always complete the standard installation procedure. * Always use the "Add/Remove Programs" icon on the Control Panel to remove the PCI Enabler and/or the RoamAbout PCI adapter. 3.2 Windows NT does not display the PC Card icon. Description: After completing the installation instructions as described in the installation document, there is no PC Card icon displayed in the Control Panel. Impact: No PC Card icon indicates that Windows NT did not enable PC Card & Socket Services. This prevents your operating system from detecting PC Cards in the PC Card slot. Action: You need to configure Windows NT to enable PC Card & Socket services at startup. Perform the following steps: 1 Open the Control Panel window. 2 Double-click the "Devices" icon. 3 In the Devices window, scroll down the list of devices and select the item "PCMCIA" 4 Click the "Startup" button located on the right side of the "Devices" window, and set the Startup-type for the PCMCIA device to "Boot". 5 Click "OK" to confirm, and return to the "Devices" window. 6 Click "OK" to return to the Control Panel. 7. Insert the RoamAbout PC Card into the PC Card slot of the PCI adapter, and reboot your computer. This allows your computer to start the PC Card services and recognize any card in the PC Card slot. To install the drivers for the RoamAbout PC Card, perform the following steps: 1. Open the Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Network icon. 3. Select the Adapters tab. 4. Refer to the driver installation instructions that shipped with the PC Card. 3.3 Windows 95 does not display the PC Card icon. Description: After completing the installation instructions as described in the installation document, there is no PC Card icon displayed in the Control Panel. Impact: No PC Card icon indicates that Windows 95/98 encountered a resource conflict that prevented the PCI adapter from installing properly. Action: To detect (and resolve) a resource conflict, perform the following steps: 1. From the Windows task bar, click on the Start button. 2. Select "Settings" and click the item "Control Panel" 3. In the Control Panel, double-click on the "System" icon. This opens the "System Properties" window. 4. In the "System Properties" window click on the "Device Manager" tab. 5. In the Device Manager window, scroll down the list of devices and select the item "PCMCIA Socket" Optionally, double-click the PCMCIA Socket icon to display more details about the device. * A yellow question mark on one or more of the PCMCIA socket icons indicates a resource conflict. Double-click the icon to display the properties and "device status". Consult your Windows documentation for trouble- shooting hints to identify and resolve the hardware/resource conflict, or disable the conflicting device. * If the PCMCIA socket is not highlighted by the yellow question mark, and/or the properties of the PCMCIA socket does not reveal a conflict: A) Refer to the installation documentation and repeat the installation procedure, or B) Contact Technical Support. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.
