1.   Installation Notes for MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT

Please refer to the RoamAbout 802.11 User's Guide for the
description of the software installation. This section contains
additional information and corrections only.

1.1  Installation under MS-Windows NT 4.0
     =======================================================

a) Enabling the PC Card Controller for the RoamAbout ISA Card.

When you install Windows NT on a computer after you installed the
RoamAbout ISA Card hardware, Windows NT will automatically start
the PC Card Controller.

When you install the RoamAbout ISA Card in a computer that has
Windows NT already installed, you probably have to start the PC
Card Controller manually:
1. Go to "Control Panel", and select "Devices".
2. In the list of devices, select "PCMCIA".
3. If "PCMCIA" is "Disabled", Select "Startup", and Select "Boot".
4. Restart your computer.
5. The PC Card Controller is now enabled.
6. Follow the RoamAbout Miniport Driver installation as described in
the User's Guide.

b)  I/O Port & IRQ & Memory Address

The RoamAbout Card's default I/O Port value under Windows NT is
0400 and the IRQ is 10, but these can be changed during the NT
installation.

1.2 PC Card Memory Address under MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT
     =======================================================

The RoamAbout PC Card does not use a Memory Address under
Windows 95, 98 or NT.

1.3  I/O Port & IRQ conflicts under MS-Windows 95, 98, and NT
     ========================================================

When your RoamAbout card's installation completed successfully,
but it does not become operational (RoamAbout Client Utility
reports "RoamAbout card not operational"), you are advised to
try a different I/O Port value and IRQ value.

The Windows Resource Manager does not always detect a conflict.
This is generally only a problem with Windows NT, but problems
have been noticed under Windows 95 OSR 0 & Windows 98 as well.

1.4  Updating the RoamAbout driver under MS-Windows 95 OSR2 & 98
     ===========================================================

1. Go to the "My Computer" icon on your display and click on the
right mouse button, then select "Properties".
2. At the "Device Manager" screen click at "Network Adapters" and
select the "RoamAbout 802.11 DS".
3. At the "Driver" screen, click the "Update Driver" button.
4. Follow the Installation Wizard guidelines.

1.5  Removing the RoamAbout driver from a MS-Windows 95 & 98 PC
     ==========================================================

a) With RoamAbout PC Card kit V1.0 (NDIS V1.30)

1. Go to the "My Computer" icon on your display and click on the
right mouse button, then select "Properties".
2. At the "Device Manager" screen click at "Network Adapters" and
select the "RoamAbout 802.11 DS" and then click the "Remove" button.
3. DO NOT confirm restarting computer.
4. Go to Windows Explorer to the "Win_Dir\System" directory, where
"Win_Dir is the directory where your Windows 95 OS is located, by
default it has name "Windows".
5. Remove wvlan41.sys and wvlanuif.vxd.
6. Goto the Win_Dir\Inf directory.
7. Remove rmabt41.inf.
8. Restart your computer.
Your driver is now removed.

b) With RoamAbout PC Card kit V1.1 (this kit, NDIS V1.38)

1. Go to the "Network Neighborhood" icon on your display and click
   on the right mouse button, then select "Properties".
2. At the "Network" screen click at "RoamAbout 802.11 DS", then
   "Remove" button and "OK".
3. Restart your computer.
Your driver is now removed.

1.6 Installing the RoamAbout Client Utility
      =======================================================

The Documentation incorrectly states that the RoamAbout Client Utility installation is in the root directory. It should have stated the
\utils\ directory.

Run the program utils\setup

1.7   Power Management
      =======================================================

Software kit V1.1 (this one) with RoamAbout Access Point software V3.2
or greater now supports Power Management. Since the PC Card has little
effect on standard laptop computer, little to no battery life gains will
seen. For sub-notebooks, PDAs and handheld devices, Power Management
will have a positive effect. See the online 'Help' within the network
setup under Windows 95, 98 & NT or in the .INI files within the DOS
environment for more information on Power Management.

2.0   Installation Notes for MS-DOS
      =======================================================

Please refer to the RoamAbout 802.11 User's Guide (Appendix B) for
the description of the software installation. This section contains
additional information and corrections only.

2.1   DOS Card Access Driver
      =======================================================

The User's Guide refers to the incorrect name "wavecad.sys" for
the Card Access Driver. The correct name to use is "wvlancad.sys".
The driver contained on this diskette uses the correct name.

The Card Access Driver (CAD) can now work together with Card Services.
If Card Services are available, the CAD will use them. Otherwise,
the CAD will interface directly with the PCIC Controller.

The CAD will not accept an IOBase address that is not on a 0x40
boundary, from Card Services. It will give a warning when this
happens, but only if the card is present at start-up.

2.2   DOS Packet Driver
      =======================================================

To unload the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 U

To get help information for the Packet Driver enter: WVLAN42 H

When the Packet Driver encounters an unknown keyword in
configuration in PACKET.INI it will produce an error message,
but load anyway. When a configuration parameter is given an
invalid value in PACKET.INI an error message will be given as
well, but in this case the Packet Driver will not load.

If you want to run PDETHER on top of the Packet Driver you should
use version 1.03 or newer.

To select the Ad-Hoc Demo Mode of operation, add the following line
to PACKET.INI:

	PortType 3

2.3  DOS ODI Driver
     =======================================================

To select the Ad-Hoc Demo Mode of operation, insure the following
line is in NET.CFG:

	PortType 3

For information on the configuration of Card Power Management, please
refer to the sample NET.CFG in file WVLAN43.CFG, or to the help
information provided during the driver installation.

5.0  Change History
     =======================================================

   Version information of software and firmware can easily be displayed
   via the RoamAbout Client Utility, Diagnose Card - Version Info.

   Updates of the software and firmware are made available via our
   WEB-site (www.cabletron.com/wireless) on regularly basis.

5.1  Software (drivers and utilities)
     =======================================================
   Following are the functional enhancements and major bug fixes
   of this PC Card software:

   Version 1.1a April 12, 1999

      * The only change here is to fix a problem with the
	RoamAbout Client Utility Help file. On some system
	the help file can return an error/warning before coming
	up.

   Version 1.1 March 1999

      * The user can now enable Card Power Management:
	  - This function should not be enabled until
	    WorkStation firmware (V2.00 or higher) and
	    RoamAbout Access Point software is V3.2 or higher
	    that supports Card Power Management, is installed.
	    In case Card Power Management is enabled before
	    this firmware is installed, the driver may not
        operate as expected, and the RoamAbout Client
	    Utility will display a warning.

      * The software now supports cards with data encryption.

      * RoamAbout Client Utility version 1.30:
	  - The Link Test screen is now updated in case the Access Point
	    is reset to operate on another channel.

	  - Site Monitor function has been added.
	    This function enables the RoamAbout station user to obtain
	    and display information about Access Points that are
	    within range, including real-time measured connection
	    quality information of the communication links.
	    This function requires NDIS Miniport driver version 1.38
	    (or higher), and Station Functions firmware version 1.18
	    (or higher).
	    The new RoamAbout Client Utility will not work with an older
	    driver or firmware.
	    Note that this function can cause normal data messages sent
	    to this station to be lost.

      * NDIS Miniport Driver version 1.38:
	  - Ad-Hoc Demo Mode did not work under NT, when a local MAC
	    address was specified, with NetBEUI. This is now corrected.

	  - A user-configured MAC address is now automatically converted
	    to be a local MAC address in case it is entered differently.

5.2  Firmware ("embedded software")
     =======================================================
   Following are the functional enhancements and major bug fixes
   of the PC Card firmware ("embedded software") that is delivered
   on the card or through updates via our WEB-site:

   * Station Functions firmware (Variant 1)

     Version 2.00   March 1999

      - This release now supports Power Management.

     Version 1.28   February 1999

      - The "promiscuous mode", that supports LAN Analyzer type
	applications, has been corrected.

      - Although in a busy environment it is still possible that
	a Station occasionally roams unnecessarily to another AP,
	the likeliness of this is reduced significantly.

      - A problem that certain Beacon Intervals combined with certain
	DTIM Periods caused the firmware to halt, has been corrected.

      - The Site Monitor function could cause the station to roam to
	an AP of a different network. This has been corrected.
