If using Windows NT 4.0, you also need Service Pack 4 or later. This kit will work with various versions of the RoamAbout PC Card. However, earlier versions of the PC Card do not support WEP Encryption and cannot be upgraded to support encryption. To determine if the RoamAbout PC Card supports encryption, check for one or both of the following: - Check for a sticker on the back of the PC Card that states support for 40-bit encryption. - Run the Client Utility. Click Diagnose Card, then select the Version Info tab. Check the Card Type field for the text, WEP Support. For MS-DOS or Windows 3.1 systems, you need the RoamAbout MS-DOS Driver kit. ******************************************************************* 2.0 New Installation For a new installation, install the RoamAbout NDIS driver as you would any other device driver. The RoamAbout IEEE DS/PC Card and ISA Adapter Card User's Guide provides the installation and configuration procedure. For Windows NT systems, you need to perform additional steps: 1. If you installed an ISA Adapter, you need to manually start up PCMCIA under Devices by selecting Startup then selecting Boot. 2. Open the PC Card icon in the Control Panel and double-click one of the PC Card sockets to enable it. 3. Run the Windows NT Diagnostics program to verify that the PC Card default I/O port (0400-043F) and IRQ (10) are not used by another device. Be aware that not all devices report their I/O port or IRQ settings to the operating system. Therefore, you could choose an unused value that is really being used. 4. Open the Control Panel and open Network. You are prompted if no network protocols are installed; otherwise, select the Adapters tab and click Add. The RoamAbout IEEE DS/PC Card and ISA Adapter Card User's Guide provides details for each of these steps. ******************************************************************* 3.0 Upgrading the RoamAbout NDIS Driver If you have a previous version of the RoamAbout NDIS driver, you can upgrade your driver as follows. 3.1 Windows 95 and Windows 98 1. Go to the My Computer icon and click on the right mouse button. 2. Select Properties from the menu. 3. In the Device Manager, click Network Adapters (+). 4. Select RoamAbout 802.11 DS and click the Properties button. 5. In the Driver window, click the Update Driver button. 6. Follow the Installation Wizard guidelines. The Update Driver button is not available on early versions of Windows 95. Instead, you need to use the Remove Driver button in the Device Manager window, then manually remove all the driver files BEFORE restarting your computer. See the RoamAbout IEEE DS/PC Card and ISA Adapter Card User's Guide for details. 3.2 Windows NT 1. Open the Control Panel and double-click Network. 2. Select the Adapters tab. 3. Select RoamAbout Adapter and click Update. 4. Follow the instructions as they appear on your screen. ******************************************************************* 4.0 Installing the RoamAbout Client Utility Install the companion RoamAbout Driver, provided on the same diskette, before installing the Client Utility. If your computer does not have the correct driver installed, the RoamAbout Client utility does not work. Instead, you will see a DRIVER NOT FOUND or similar error message. To install the client utility, run the Setup program in the Util folder on the diskette. The following files are installed during setup: RMABT_CL.EXE (RoamAbout Client Utility Executable) RMABT_CL.HLP (RoamAbout Client Utility Help File) RMABT_CL.CNT (RoamAbout Client Utility Help Contents File) ******************************************************************* 5.0 Change History The RoamAbout Driver V4.0 kit contains: - RoamAbout NDIS Miniport Driver V4.0 - RoamAbout Client Utility V4.02 Version 4.0 introduces WEP data encryption and enhanced online help systems for the driver and the client utility.
