Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller OS Driver Installation ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Table of Contents ----------------- 1) Windows 2000/XP first time installation. 2) Installing the SiI RAID controller onto an existing Windows 2000/XP system. 3) Verifying controller installation under Windows 2000 and XP. 4) Update SiI RAID driver on a Windows 2000/XP system with existing Silicon Image driver. 5) Windows 98SE and Windows ME first time installation. 6) First time installation of SiI RAID driver onto an existing Windows 98SE/ME system. 7) Updating SiI RAID driver on a Windows 98SE/ME system with existing Silicon Image driver. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Windows 2000/XP first time installation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the instructions in this section if you are performing a new installation of Windows 2000/XP, and you wish to boot from a device attached to the SiI 3112 controller. 1. Copy all the files in this folder to a floppy disk. Power off the system. Connect the hard drives to the SiI 3112 controller. Power up the system. 2. Put your Windows 2000/XP CD into the CD-ROM/DVD drive. If your system cannot boot from the CD, you can place the 2000/XP boot diskette #1 in the floppy drive. 3. At the beginning of the installation process you will be prompted to press F6 for third party SCSI or driver installation. Press F6. When it asks if you want to specify an additional device, press 's'. At that point, insert the floppy disk you just made. Press 'Enter' and select 'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller' 4. Press 'Enter' to continue. 5. Follow the setup instructions to select your choice for the partition and the file system. 6. After setup examines your disks, it will copy files to the Windows 2000/XP installation folders and will then restart the system. After the restart, the setup program will continue the installation to completion. 7. Wait until Windows 2000/XP finishes installing the devices, regional settings, networking settings, and other components. After the last task is completed, reboot the system if asked to do so. 8. See instructions in section 3 to verify that the controller was installed correctly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2) Installing the SiI RAID controller onto an existing Windows 2000/XP system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow the instructions in this section to install the Silicon Image SiI 3112 driver on a system already running Windows 2000. 1. Power off the system. Connect the hard drives to the SiI 3112 controller. Power up the system. 2. During OS boot up, Windows 2000 will display the 'Found New Hardware Wizard'. Click 'Next'. 3. Select 'Search for a suitable driver for my device (Recommended)' and Click 'Next'. 4. Under 'Optional search locations' insure that the 'CD-ROM drives' option is checked. 5. Insert the Driver and Utility CD that comes with the mainboard into your CD-ROM and press 'Enter'. 6. When the wizard indicates that it has found a driver for the device, click 'Next'. 7. If the 'Digital Signature Not Found' message appears, click 'Yes' to continue installing the driver. 8. The wizard will now copy the required files to the system and start the driver. After starting the driver the wizard will display a "completion" dialog box. Click 'Finish' to exit the wizard. 9. See instructions in section 3 to verify that the controller was installed correctly. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Verifying controller installation under Windows 2000 and XP. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the instructions in this section to verify that the controller was installed correctly. 1. Right click on the 'My Computer' icon, select 'Properties', left click on the 'Hardware' tab, and then on the 'Device Manager' button. 2. Double click on 'SCSI and RAID Controllers'. If there are no yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) markers in front of 'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller', the driver has started normally. 3. To view information about the devices attached to the controller, use the SiICfg Utility and click on the device from the list provided. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Update SiI RAID driver on a Windows 2000/XP system with existing Silicon Image driver. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With the Silicon Image controller already plugged in and the driver already installed. Follow the instructions to update SiI RAID driver. 1. Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'. Under the 'System Properties' section, click on the 'Hardware' tab, click on 'Device Manager', click 'SCSI and RAID Controller' and right click 'Silicon Image Ultra-133 Medley ATA Raid Controller'. 2. Click 'Driver' ,'Update Driver' and select 'Search for a suitable driver for my device[Recommended]'. Insert the Driver and Utility CD comes with the mainboard into your CD-ROM. Click 'Next' and complete the driver installation. 3. The system will proceed to install the driver. At the end of the process, click 'Yes' to reboot your system if prompted. 4. See instructions in section 3 to verify controller was installed correctly. ------------------------------------------------------- 5) Windows 98SE and Windows ME first time installation. ------------------------------------------------------- Follow the instructions in this section if you are performing a new installation of Windows 98SE/ME and you wish to boot from a device attached to the SiI 3112 controller. You may start up the Windows 98SE/ME installation from CD. If either your Windows 98SE/ME CD or CD-ROM drive is not bootable, you can boot up with floppy diskettes. 1. Power off the system. Connect the hard drives to the SiI RAID controller. Power up the system. 2. Put your Windows 98SE/ME CD into the CD-ROM/DVD drive. If you cannot boot from the CD, place the Windows 98SE/ME boot diskette in the floppy drive. 3. Follow the normal Windows 98SE/ME setup instructions to configure your partitions and file systems. 4. Wait until Windows 98SE/ME finishes installing the devices, regional settings, networking settings, and other components. After the final task, reboot the system. 5. After the system reboots, right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'. From 'System Properties', select 'Device Manager', right click on the '?PCI RAID controller' and select 'Properties' from the pop-up menu. 6. Click 'Driver' ,'Update Driver' and select 'Automatic search for a better driver[Recommended]'. Insert the Driver and Utility CD that comes with the mainboard into your CD-ROM. Click 'Next' and complete the rest of the driver installation. 7. The system will proceed with the installation of the driver. At the end of the process, click 'Yes' to reboot your system. 8. See the instructions in section 3 to verify that the controller was installed correctly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6) First time installation of SiI RAID driver onto an existing Windows 98SE/ME ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you have an existing Windows 98SE/ME system and have just obtained a Silicon Image SiI 3112 controller card, you need to run the update program to install the Silicon Image driver. The driver package is located on the Silicon Image driver diskette or on the diskette provided by the OEM vendor. 1. Power off the system. Connect the hard drives to the SiI 3112 controller. Power up the system. 2. During the system boot up, the Hardware Wizard will display a window to inform you that it found a ' PCI RAID Controller'. Click ' Next' . Select ' Search for the best driver for your device[Recommended]' and click ' Next' . 3. Check the ' CD-ROM drives' option and insert the Driver and Utility CD that comes with the mainboard into your CD-ROM. Click ' Next' . 4. The system will proceed to install the driver and files. At the end of the process, click 'Finish' to complete the installation. Reboot the system if your Windows 98SE/ME drive is connected to the SiI RAID Controller. 5. See the instructions in section 3 to verify controller was installed correctly. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) Update SiI RAID driver on a Windows 98SE/ME system with existing Silicon Image driver. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With a system with the Silicon Image controller already plugged in and the driver already installed, follow the instructions to update the SiI 3112 driver. 1. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
