Installing The Modem
====================

========
Hardware
========

1. Plug in the Male RS-232 cable marked RS-232 on the back of the modem

2. Plug the male end of this cable into the serial port on the back of your computer.

3. Make sure that your modem is Turned Off before you continue to do the following. Plug the power 
   cable into the AC-IN connector on the back of the modem.

4. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet.

5. Plug one end of the phone cable into the modem's LINE jack. Plug the other end into the phone
   outlet.

6. To use the telephone and the modem on the same line, plug one end of the optional phone cable 
   into the PHONE jack on the modem; plug the other end into the phone. Lift the telephone handset
   and listen for a DIALTONE to check the connection.

7. When you have completed fixing everything, turn on the modem. The HS/MR light should light up.

8. Turn your computer on.

Software
========

For devices which do not have Plug and Play feature, we need to install its driver manually. 
This method is also done with the guidance of a Windows wizard, called Modem Installation Wizard.

1. Turn On the computer.

2. Click on the START button.

3. Point to Settings and click on Control Panel.

4. You can also access to the Control Panel by double clicking the My Computer icon on the 
   desktop.

5. Choose Control Panel from the My Computer window by double-clicking it.

6. When the Control Panel window appears, double-click on the Modems Control Icon.

7. When you click on this icon, there will be a window appearing, named, Modem Properties. 
   It contains two tabs that is the General tab and the Diagnostics tab.

8. In the General tab, click on the Add button.

9. When you click the Add button you should see the following Install New Modem screen.

10.When you see the Install New modem screen, click the Next button.

11.When you click the Next button, you will soon see that Windows will try to detect your modem.

12.After the detection process, Windows will then try to communicate with your modem through the 
   Communication Port(normally COM 2).

13.When a modem is found, Windows will display a Verify Modem screen.

14.When you see this screen, click on the Change button.

15.When you click the Change button, the Install New Modem screen will appear.

16.When you see this screen, click on the Have Disk... button.

17.When you click the Have Disk... button, windows will prompt you to insert the manufacturer's 
   installation disk into the selected drive. Now put in the diskette which comes with the 
   SWANN SPEED DEMON modem package.

18.After putting in the diskette into the drive,Type in the appropriate drive letter for example
   A:\. If your floppy disk drive is drive B:\ then key in B:\. Press the OK button.

19.When you click the OK button, the Install New Modem will appear.Choose the SWANN SPEED DEMON
   56Kbps V.90 MODEM.

20.Click on the OK button.

21.After pressing OK, Windows will ask you to verify that the modem driver that you have chosen
   in the above process is correct.

22.When you see this window, click on the Next button.

23.You should see the Install New Modem screen.

24.To end the installation process click the Finish button.

25.When you click on the Finish button, the Modem Properties screen will appear.

26.To check whether the modem is installed properly, click on the Diagnostics tab.

27.Windows will automatically detect your modem if it is connected properly to the appropriate 
   communication port.

28.For more information about the Port connection, click on the More Info... button.

29.The More Info... screen will appear after Windows communicates with the SWANN SPEED DEMON 
   Modem for a few minutes.
