In the instructions below, “x” represents the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.  In the default configuration, with only one hard drive partition and one CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive,  replace the letter “x” with the letter “D”.

Setting up the HP Network Card
Windows 98
Open the Device Manager by clicking on Start>Settings>Control Panel, and double-clicking on System.  Click on the Device Manager tab.
Look for a device named "PCI Networking Device."  Remove it if it is there.  If it is not there, skip to the next step.
Click on Refresh at the bottom of the Device Manager.
When the Add New Hardware wizard prompts you for a driver, direct it to x:\Gen6xx\Gen6746\network directory
After the wizard is done, reboot if necessary.
Windows Me
Open the Device Manager by clicking on Start>Settings>Control Panel, and double-clicking on System.  Click on the Device Manager tab.
Click on the “+” next to Networking, you’ll see an entry for a “Realtek RTC8139” Network, Double click on this card to go to “Properties” of the card.  Click on the “Driver” tab.  Click on “Update Driver”. Specify the location of the new driver, and then Browse to x:\Gen6xx\Gen6746\network
This will locate the “HP Network Driver”, follow the onscreen instructions, you may also need to reboot the system
Windows 2000
Open the Device Manager by clicking on Start>Settings>Control Panel, and double-clicking on System.  Click on the Manage tab, then on the Device Manager tab.
Click on the “+” next to Networking, you’ll see an entry for a “Realtek RTC8139” Network, Double click on this card to go to “Properties” of the card.  Click on the “Driver” tab.  Click on “Update Driver”. Specify the location of the new driver, and then Browse to x:\Gen6xx\Gen6746\network
This will locate the “HP Network Driver”, follow the onscreen instructions, you may also need to reboot the system

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
