3Com Corporation Network Drivers Installation Notes WINDOWS 3.1X AND NOVELL NETWARE This document describes how to configure the LAN+Modem card for use with Windows V3.1X (Not Windows for Workgroups) and Novell NetWare. These procedures are also described in the EtherLink III LAN+Modem PC Card User Guide, Chapter 3, Setup for Windows. NOTE: The following instructions assume you have not installed any other network adapter in the machine. If networking has already been installed, some of the instructions will not apply or appear accurate. Consult with your MIS department for further instructions. Before installing the network driver, you should know the transport used in the Novell Network (typically IPX/SPX) and have access to the following software components: - Novell NetWare VLM Client disks for DOS and Windows - The EtherDisk diskette that came with your 3C562 LAN+Modem card Installation Instructions 1. Boot the system in DOS. If the system starts up in Windows, exit Windows to return to the DOS prompt. 2. Place the Novell VLM client disk #1 in the floppy drive. Type: a:\install <Enter>. This opens the NetWare client installation screen. 3. Use the down arrow key to move from line to line. Ensure that the information is correct. When you are asked to select the driver for your network card, press <Enter> to see the list of supported adapters. At the bottom of the list, find and select Other Drivers. 4. When prompted for a driver disk, put the EtherDisk in your floppy drive and press <Enter>. 3Com Etherlink III+Modem PC Card Adapter v1.1 should appear as the first item on the list. Click to select it and press <ENTER>. 5. Specify the frame type by pressing <ENTER> and choosing the appropriate type from the list. Press <Enter> to select your choice. (You will not need to select an I/O Base. Use the default.) 6. Press F10 to return to the main installation screen. Position the cursor on line 6 and press <Enter>. The installer prompts for several diskettes and notifies you when the installation is complete. 7. Press <Enter> to exit the installation program and return to DOS. 8. Edit your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Add the line: c:\nwclient\3celcm to the top of the file. The first two lines of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file should now read: c:\nwclient\3celcm @call c:\nwclient\startnet 9. Save your AUTOEXEC.BAT file changes and exit the editor. 10. Reboot the system by hitting <CTRL><ALT><DEL>. When you go into Windows You will be able to LOGIN to the Novell Servers. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
