Driver Installation for Novell NetWare DOS client
-------------------------------------------------
Introduction
------------
The NetWare ODI drivers allow you to run multiple protocol stacks
and install up to two network adapters in a workstation.
The provided ODI driver supports the Node Address, Protocol and Frame
options for creating your own NET.CFG file. The EA201 specific
keywords are provided at the end of this installation guide. Please
refer to Novell's "NetWare ODI shell for DOS - NET.CFG options".
This installation assumes that the adapter is working properly.
The Getting Started section describes the installation instructions.
Getting Started
---------------
There are two methods for NetWare client driver installation,
NETGEAR automatic driver installation (for NetWare 3.11) and
Novell Client install (for NetWare 3.12 and 4.x).
If desired, the duplex mode of the EA201 adapter card can also be
modified using the included SETUP.EXE program in the root directory.
For more detail, please refer to the SETUP.TXT file in the \HELP
directory.
Automatic driver installation
-----------------------------
The DOS ODI driver EA201.COM is provided in the root directory of
the Drivers and Diagnostics diskette. No decompresstion is necessary
prior to a NetWare DOS client driver installation with this procedure
1. Insert the Drivers and Diagnostics disk and type A:\HELP to
execute the installation program. Select "Quick Install for
NetWare Client" to install Novell NetWare client for DOS for
your system.
2. Provide the target path where the drivers are to be installed.
3. Answer yes if you want the installation program to modify your
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. When finished, press Enter to exit
out of the program. Rebooting the system will activate the
Novell NetWare client driver for accessing a NetWare server.
A typical ODI workstation startup batch file includes:
> LSL ; Link Support Layer Module provided by Novell

> IPXODI ; IPX Protocol Stack Module provided by Novell
> NETX ; DOS Shell Support Module provided by Novell
> F:LOGIN ; Login to file server
Novell Client Installation (for NetWare 3.12 and 4.1x)
------------------------------------------------------
The necessary files for Novell client installation are stored in
a self-extracting compressed format. The DOS ODI driver, EA201.COM,
and the information file, EA201.INS, need to be extracted prior to
starting the Novell installation procedure.
1. Copy the NETWARE.EXE file from the \NETWARE direcotry of the
drivers diskette. Enter "NETWARE" at MS-DOS prompt to extract
the driver and the information flies.
2. Run the NetWare Client Install program from NetWare 3.12 or 4.1x.
- Get the Client disks from the network administrator or create
them from the NetWare installation CD.
3. Answer the questions on the screen accordingly. The questions
will include modification of AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, and
software configuration for your workstation for backup by a
NetWare server.
4. When prompted to select a driver for your network board, choose
"OTHER DRIVERS".
5. Provide the path where the NetWare ODI drivers for DOS were
previously extracted as described in step 1.
For example: C:\NETWARE\ODI.DOS.
6. Select the "NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet Card".
7. Specify the driver's optional settings, if needed.
8. Press F10 to save to new configuration.
9. Proceed to "Install press here" and press <Enter> to install.
The program copies the necessary files for NetWare Client. Continue
the installation procedure to completion. Upon completion, a new
NET.CFG file will be created in your DOS directory. Typically, this
file contains the following lines:
Link Driver EA201
FRAME Ethernet_802.3
FRAME Ethernet_802.2

A batch file, STARTNET.BAT, for the ODI workstation performs the
following:
SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH ; Set NetWare 4.X to English language
LSL ; Link Support Layer Module provided by Novell
EA201 ; Hardware Specific Module
IPXODI ; IPX Protocol Stack Module provided by Novell
VLM ; DOS Support Module provided by Novell
F: ; Change to connected device
LOGIN .ADMIN ; Login to file server as user ADMIN
10. Run STARTNET.BAT to access the Novell network.
NET.CFG parameters supported by the DOS ODI driver EA201.COM
------------------------------------------------------------
Node Address - This keyword specifies the node address (in hex)
used by the adapter. This option is used only to
override the node address stored in the adapter. If
this keyword is included, the specified address will
be used instead of the adapter's actual node address.
PORT - This keyword specifies the I/O base address used by the
adapter. This value must match the actual I/O base address
setting on the adapter. If this keyword is not specified, the
default value will be put into effect.
INT - This keyword specifies the interrupt line used by the adapter.
This value must match the actual IRQ setting on the adapter.
If not specified, the default value will be put into effect.
FRAME - This keyword specifies the supported frame types. Four types
are available:
ETHERNET_802.3
ETHERNET_802.2
ETHERNET_II
ETHERNET_SNAP
UTP - This keyword specifies that the UTP port on the adapter.
AUTODETECT - This keyword specifies auto-detection of the port used
by the adapter.
SA - This keyword enables the driver to automatically search for all
EA201 adapters in the system.
EarlyTx - This keyword enable the Early Transmit packet function, it
will improve the performance.
Note: Use the included SETUP.EXE in the root directory to change
the duplex mode if desired. For more detail information, please
refer to the SETUP.TXT file in the \HELP directory.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
