Linux driver for ITE887X serial and parport:
Test in Mandrake 9.0 ,and update kernel to 2.4.20

Warning:
  This driver only for Linux kernel 2.4.19 or 2.4.20.
If your kernel is older, please update to 2.4.20 .

"/usr/src/linux" is the default kernel path.
If you use redhat , the path is "/usr/src/linux-2.4".
  If you do not know how to compile kernel, please 
read kernel-howto document for reference.

Conver the two files "serial.c" and "parport_pc.c":
( Note: please backup the two files first! )

In kernel 2.4.19:
 #cp  serial_19.c  /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/serial.c
 #cp  parport_pc_19.c  /usr/src/linux/drivers/parport/parport_pc.c

In kernel 2.4.20:
 #cp  serial_20.c  /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/serial.c
 #cp  parport_pc_20.c  /usr/src/linux/drivers/parport/parport_pc.c

Compile kernel:
 #cd /usr/src/linux
 #make menuconfig
select the options:
Warning: "Parallel port support" must be "M", because 
         the 887X serial must be load befor parport.

After compile kernel and reboot, you can check 887x by "dmesg" command.
"dmesg" will show you which ttyS set by 887x.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
