Thank you for purchasing the DC4030VL-2 Disk Accelerator. Your
DC4030VL-2 should include two diskettes. One diskette contains the
drivers for DOS, Windows, NetWare and OS/2. It also contains several
DOS utility programs. The second diskette contains the drivers for Unix
Operating Systems. These drivers enable your system to take the advantage
of the high speed 32-Bit VL-Bus.

You will need this driver under the following situations:
1. More than two IDE drives are attached to the DC4030VL-2 controller
2. The DC4030VL-2 functions as the SECONDARY disk controller
3. When installing the Windows drivers for 32 Bit VL-Bus access
Please refer to the User's Manual for the DOS driver installation.
If your DC4030VL-2 will be installed as the SECONDARY disk controller,
follow the steps in the section below entitled "Secondary Disk Controller
Operation."
The DOS driver is needed to work in conjunction with the Windows drivers.
Refer to README file found in WINDOWS directory.

The subdirectory "NETWARE" contains the device drivers for NetWare 3.10
and NetWare 3.11. Browse the README file in the subdirectory "NETWARE"
for information about the NetWare driver installation.

The subdirectory "WINDOWS" contains the device driver for Windows 3.10.
Browse the README file in the subdirectory "WINDOWS" for information
about the Windows drivers installation.

The subdirectory "OS2" contains the device driver for OS/2 2.0 and
OS/2 2.1. Browse the README file in the subdirectory "OS/2" for
information about the OS/2 driver installation.

******** Install UNIX Operating System ********
Cache Disabled Mode is recommended for the initial installation of
the Unix operating system. In the Cache Disabled Mode, there is no
read or write caching. It is guaranteed that the disk caching function
will not interfere with the disk media scanning commonly seen at the
operating system installation.
The drivers for Unix operating systems are provided in another diskette.
******** Install UNIX Driver ********
This driver is for AT&T UNIX SVR 4.0 and SCO UNIX 3.2.X. It is provided on
the second diskette. The driver is common for all the following Promise
disk controller:
. DC-200, DC-200M
. DC-4030VL, DC4030VL-1, DC4030VL-2,
. DC-400, DC-420.
If your computer has any two controllers listed above, you only need to
install the driver just once.
Please follow the steps below to install the UNIX driver:
1. Insert the diskette which contains the UNIX Driver into drive A:
and type the following command after the prompt "#":
# installpkg
2. The system will ask you for the IRQ of the SECONDARY hard disk
controller with the question below. NOTE: This question only
applies to the system that a Promise Technology card will be installed
as the SECONDARY disk controller.
If you will install one Promise disk accelerator
as the secondary hard disk controller,
what is the IRQ of the secondary hard disk controller
in this system (12 or 15)? (default=15)
If you are installing a single card in the system, this choice will
have no bearing on your installation.
3. The following message will be displayed on the screen:
Does the mainboard CPU have a 16-bit external data bus
(for examples, IBM 486 SLC2 ...) instead of a 32-bit bus
(Y/N)? (default=N)
Please answer 'Y' or 'N' to fit your mainboard CPU.
4. Done! You have completed the installation if you are running
AT&T UNIX SVR 4.0.
5. If you are running SCO UNIX, type the following commands after
the driver is installed:
# cd /
# shutdown -y -g0 -i6
These commands will shutdown and reboot your system with the new
kernel.
NOTE:
A PRIMARY hard disk controller is configured with IRQ 14. While
a SECONDARY hard disk controller is configured with IRQ 12 or 15.
******** Adding Secondary Hard Disks ********
For the Unix operating system to recognize more than one drive, you
must use the ptidiskadd command. This will make secondary hard
disks "visible" to the system.
1. Please type the following command:
# ptidiskadd
2. The command will ask you of the following three questions:
Which controller will the hard disk be attached to?
1. the primary controller
2. the secondary controller
Please choose answer(1 or 2)(default=1):
Which cable (of this controller) will the hard disk be attached to?
1. the first cable
2. the second cable
Please choose the answer(1 or 2)(default=1):
Will the hard disk be the master(single) or slave drive on this cable?
1. the master or single hard disk
2. the slave hard disk
Please choose the answer(1 or 2)(default=2):
Please answer the questions according to your setting.
4. The other steps are very similar to the procedures about
"Adding secondary hard disks" found in the System Administrator's
Guide of SCO UNIX Operating System. Please refer to the System
Administrator's Guide for further reference.
NOTE:
1.) When executing ptidiskadd, you MUST set the Promise disk controller
to "cache disabled" in the CSU setup. With "cache disabled", the
system will be able to identify the bad sectors on the hard disk.
2.) This utility will not work until you have installed the Promise
Disk Accelerator Driver and rebooted with the new kernel.
3.) With a PRIMARY and SECONDARY Promise disk controller in a system,
up to eight hard disks can be installed.
******** Remove the Driver ********
If you want to remove the driver and recover to the original hard disk
device driver, please type the following command after the prompt #:
# removepkg
Certain installed package name(s) will be displayed on the screen.
Please choose "Promise Disk Accelerator Driver".
The remove procedure will continue.
If you are running the SCO UNIX, please type the following commands to
shutdown and reboot your system:
# cd /
# shutdown -y -g0 -i6

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
