Overview

This is the Microsoft Windows 9x driver for the Conexant 56k PCI Red Owl modem, Gateway part numbers 6001633, 6001681, or 6001260.


Identification

To determine if this is the correct modem driver for your computer, use the following directions to check Device Manager and verify the modem.

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

4.  On the Device Manager tab, double-click Modem.

5.  Listed under Modem should be 56K PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV R9A.  If it is listed, you have the proper driver.


Installation

1.  Close all open windows, except this readme.txt file if instructions are needed.

2.  If you have not already done so, locate and double-click the 7510867.exe file that you downloaded from the Internet.  This file should be located on your desktop.  Files are extracted to the C:\Cabs\7510867 folder.

3.  From the Start menu, click Run.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\7510867\Setup.exe.  Click OK. 

4.  An Updating Hardware Information Database dialog box opens, followed by three New Hardware Found dialog boxes for the PCI Modem Enumerator, the 56k PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV R9A, and the Unimodem Half Duplex Wave Device.  When finished, the driver installation is complete. 

5.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the What do you want the computer to do list, click Restart, and then click OK. 


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 

3.  In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, on the Install/Uninstall tab, in the list of installed programs, click 56k PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV R9A (Uninstall), and then click Add/Remove. 

4.  The 56k PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV R9A (Uninstall) is removed from the list, signifying that the software removal is complete.  


Reason for Update

This is the new WHQL driver for this device.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
