2.0 INTRODUCTION
----------------
This file contains last-minute updates.  Please read this file before
proceeding with the installation.  This diskette contains the Yamaha* 
Windows* NT audio device driver.

Supported OS: Windows NT Version 3.51 and Version 4.0
Supported HW: Yamaha OPL3-SA, OPL3-SA2, OPL3-SA3, OPL4-ML

3.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINDOWS NT 3.51
-------------------------------------------------
This installation assumes that you have correctly installed Windows NT 
on your computer and that your system is able to boot and run without errors. 
If not, refer to the Windows NT User Manual for help before continuing.

3.1 Yamaha OPL3-SA Sound System
-------------------------------
1. From the Windows NT Program Manager, select the Main icon and then double
   click Control Panel.
2. Select the Drivers icon, click the Add button, select "Unlisted or
   Updated Driver", and click OK.
3. When the Install Driver window appears, insert your Yamaha Driver diskette,
   and type the drive letter of the diskette drive, then click OK.
4. When the Add Unlisted or Updated Driver window appears, select the language
   your operating system uses, and click OK.
5. If you are reinstalling the drivers, you will see a Driver Exists screen
   that asks you if you would like to use the current driver or install a
   new driver. Click the New button to continue.
6. At this point you will see a Yamaha OPL3-SA Series Driver window.
   Note your resource settings and click OK.  You will now see a System
   Settings Change window, select Restart Now to finish the installation
   and reboot your computer.

Note:  After the reboot you should hear the Windows sound after you log in.
If you do not, check resource conflicts using the Windows NT Diagnostics
utility located in the Administrative Tools folder.

3.2 Yamaha OPL3SA2 and OPL3SA3 Sound Systems
--------------------------------------------
1. From the Windows NT Program Manager, select the Main icon and then double
   click on Control Panel.
2. Select the Drivers icon, click on the Add button, select "Unlisted or
   Updated Driver", and click on OK.
3. When the Install Driver window appears, insert your Yamaha Driver diskette,
   and type the drive letter of the diskette drive, then click OK.
4. When the Add Unlisted or Updated Driver window appears, select the language
   your operating system uses, and click on OK.
5. If you are reinstalling the drivers, you will see a Driver Exists screen
   that asks you if you would like to use the current driver or install a
   new driver. Click on the New button to continue.
6. At this point you will see a Yamaha OPL3-SA Series Driver window.  If you
   want to change the settings for the sound card, (they are listed under the
   Wave section of the hardware setup), select the drop down menu next to
   I/O Address or IRQ and select your new resources.
7. Place a checkmark in the ENABLE MPU401 checkbox. If you wish to change
   the resources for this device, select the new setting from the drop down
   menus labeled I/O Address, and IRQ.
8. Place a checkmark in the Use Dual DMA checkbox.  If you wish to change
   the DMA channels, select the radial button next to the resource you want
   to use, (choices are DMA 0, 1, and 3).
9. When you are finished, click on OK.  You will now see a System Setting
   Change window, select Restart Now to finish the installation and reboot
   the system.

Note:  After the reboot you should hear the Windows sound after you log in.
If you do not, check resource conflicts using the Windows NT Diagnostics
utility located in the Administrative Tools folder.

3.3 Enabling OPL4-ML
--------------------
1.  Double Click on the Program Manager
2.  Double Click on the Control Panel
3.  Double Click on the Midi Mapper Icon
4.  Highlight and select OPL3SA-Midi
5.  Close the Midi Mapper
6.  Open your favorite media player and play a midi file

1. From the Windows NT desktop, click on the START button, choose Settings,
   and then Control Panel.
2. Double Click on the Multimedia icon, and select the Devices tab. 
3. Click on the Add button, select "Unlisted or Updated Driver", and
   click on OK.
4. When the Install Driver window appears, insert your Yamaha Driver diskette,
   and type the drive letter of the diskette drive, then click OK.
5. When the Add Unlisted or Updated Driver window appears, select the
   language your operating system uses, and click on OK.
6. If you are reinstalling the drivers, you will see a Driver Exists screen
   that asks you if you would like to use the current driver or install a
   new driver. Click on the New button to continue.
7. At this point you will see a Yamaha OPL3-SA Series Driver window.
8. Note the resource settings and click on OK.  You will now see a System
   Setting Change window, select Restart Now to finish the installation
   and reboot the system.

If you do not, check for resource conflicts using the Windows NT Diagnostics
utility, located in the Administrative Tools folder.

4.2 Yamaha OPL3SA2 and OPL3SA3 Sound Systems

1. From the Windows NT desktop, click on the START button, choose Settings,
   and then Control Panel.
2. Double Click on the Multimedia icon, and select the Devices tab. 
3. Click on the Add button, select "Unlisted or Updated Driver", and
   click on OK.
4. When the Install Driver window appears, insert your Yamaha Driver diskette,
   and type the drive letter of the diskette drive, then click OK.

4.3 Enabling OPL4-ML

1.  Click on START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL.
2.  Double click on the multimedia icon
3.  Click on the Midi tab
4.  Select and highlight Yamaha OPL3-SA MPU401
5.  Click on the OK Button.
6.  Open your favorite Media Player and play a midi file

5.0 LIMITATIONS
---------------
1.  When changing sound devices, the user must close Media Player and 
    then reopen to ensure the proper sound device is loaded.  For example,
    when changing the Midi device from FM Synth to MPU401.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
