                   Installing the PCMCIA Ethernet Card Driver
                            Under Banyan VINES v5.x
              ===================================================

     The NDIS2 driver for DOS program follows Microsoft's NDIS
     specification version 2.0.1.

     The PCMCIA Ethernet adapter driver files for Banyan VINES DOS
     workstation contained in this directory are as follows:

     Files            Contents
     -------------    -----------------------------------------------------
     PCMND.DOS        NDIS2 driver for Banyan VINES v5.x DOS workstation.
     PCMND.NIF        Network information file for install.
     PROTOCOL.INI     Includes driver binding information and operational
                      parameters.

     please see your Banyan VINES for DOS workstation documentation.

     *  Installation Procedures Steps  *
     ***********************************

     Create a bootable diskette which will be used as boot diskette of
     Banyan VINES workstation or create a sub-directory on you hard disk.

     1. Copy the contents of the "VINES LAN S/W (DOS) Install" diskette
        into the sub-directory.

         COPY A:\*.*  C:\VINES\*.*

     2. Copy the contents of the NDIS subdirectory on the "VINES LAN S/W
        (DOS) 2 of 2" diskette into the \VINES sub-directory.

         COPY A:\*.*  C:\VINES\*.*

     3. Insert the PCMCIA Ethernet driver diskette in driver 'A', and copy
        files to the \VINES sub-directory.

         COPY A:\NDIS2\PCMND.DOS  C:\VINES\*.*
         COPY A:\NDIS2\BANYAN\*.*  C:\VINES\*.*

     4. Create or modify the PROTOCOL.INI file as follows:

         [PROTOCOL MANAGER]
         DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$

         [VINES_XIF]
         DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$
         BINDINGS = PCMND

         [PCMND]
         DRIVERNAME = PCMND$

     5. Execute the PCCONFIG.EXE command located in the \VINES
        subdirectory.

     6. When "CONFIGURATION A PC FOR NETWORK" is displayed on the screen,
              then select option '1 - Network Card Settings'.
                            :
             "Network Card Settings" is displayed on the screen then select
              option 'NDIS Ethernet'.
                            :
             "NDIS Ethernet" is displayed on the screen then select and set
              for 'PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter'.

        Press 'F10' when done, return to "CONFIGURATION A PC NETWORK"
        screen.

     7. When "CONFIGURATION A PC NETWORK" is displayed again on the screen,
              then select option '2 - Login Environment settings'.

             The "1 - Select Default Communications Driver" is displayed on
             the screen, then select option 'NDIS Ethernet'.
                            :
             Then 'PCCONFIG.DB' file will be generated.

     8. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following statements lines.

         DEVICE=C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES
         DEVICE=C:\VINES\PCMND.DOS

     9. Add the 'BAN' command to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 'BAN' loads the
        NDISBAN drivers and reads the PCCONFIG.DB file to invoke changes
        made during the PCCONFIG stage.

    10. Reboot your computer.

    11. Login into VINES by executing the 'BAN' command.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
