   ============

The Compaq Ethernet LAN Card Installation Program is provided
to automate configuration of your PC and network drivers. For
detailed installation and configuration information, refer to
the Installation Guide and Online User's Guide that came with
   the card.

During installation of the card in computers running Windows 95,
insert the Compaq Network Drivers Diskette to add the necessary
software to configure the card to the system.

Network Card Setup on a Compaq Contura Aero
   -------------------------------------------
   1. With the computer on and running Windows for Workgroups,
insert the External Diskette Drive into the PC Card slot.
   2. Insert the Installation Diskette into the drive, from Program
Manager, select File, Run, type a:\setup, and click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
   3. When prompted, select the current Network Operating System
      from the list provided.

   DOS 6.x Startup Menu Notes
   --------------------------
The Compaq Ethernet LAN Card requires an 8K range of your PC's
memory. If you are using a memory manager such as EMM386 or
QEMM, the installation program requires an 8K memory range while
running in Memory Mapped mode. IO mode required 0K of memory.

If you have a memory manager definition in each of your startup
(boot) sections, the installation program will display a message
which will ask you whether you would like the program to exclude
this memory range in each of your startup options, or save the
recommended changes in a separate file so you can make changes
only to the startup option or options you wish.

Compaq Ethernet LAN Card User's Guide for DOS 6.x
   -------------------------------------------------
To install the User's Guide in operating systems other than
   Windows, follow these steps.

   1. Insert the Installation Diskette into drive A.
   2. From the system prompt, type cd a: <enter>
   3. Type guide.bat<enter> then choose yes to copy ETHER1.TXT
to the C:\COMPAQ directory. If you choose no, you will be
      prompted to type a:alternate directory.
   4. Type guide.bat<alternate directory> to copy ETHER1.TXT to
      the specified alternate directory.

   Novell Netware Requester 2.11
   -----------------------------
To install Novell Netware Requester for OS/2 Warp on portable
computers without card and socket services, follow these steps.
   1. Copy CPQODI.OS2 from the Network Driver diskette to the OS2
subdirectory of the WorkStation Driver (WSDRV) diskette in
      the NewWare Client package.
   2. Run the INSTALL program from the NetWare Requester disk
(WSOS21) and follow the instructions on the screen. Choose
CPQODI.OS2 when prompted to install a Network Interface
Card driver. The install program will copy the drivers and
      modify the CONFIG.SYS.
   3. From the main screen of the NetWare Workstation for the OS/2
Installation Utility, choose Configuration, This Workstation.
Edit the NET.CFG using the following sample, including the
correct frame types for your network.
      Sample NET.CFG
      link driver CPQODI.OS2
      port 300
      int 5
   4. Save the NET.CFG. A message is displayed confirming
installation. Close the Installation Utility and verify
that the CONFIG.SYS changes are made.
      Sample CONFIG.SYS
REM - NetWare Requester statements BEGIN
      Set NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH
      DEVICE=D:\NETWARE

   Previous Installations
   ----------------------
If you have existing Novell network drivers loaded in your
CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT, the installation program will
attempt to remove (REM) the entries since these entries could
conflict with the Compaq Ethernet LAN Card installation. If the
installation program cannot remove these entries, you will be
prompted to REM or remove them yourself. Use the editing
function, XEDIT to revise entries. After you remove or
REM out the existing driver entries in your system files,
re-run the Compaq Ethernet LAN Card installation program in
order for configuration to be completed correctly.

   NETWARE 4.x Installation Notes
   ------------------------------
The Novell NetWare 4.x Client Install program does not support
loading of the CPQCFG.EXE file, which is a file required for
configuration of some PCMCIA slots. If you complete the
NetWare 4.x installation and experience problems attaching to
   your network, follow these instructions:

Using a DOS editor (such as EDIT), edit your STARTNET.BAT file
and add the line CPQCFG before the lines LSL and CPQODI.

2) SYSTEM CONFIGURATION NOTES
   ==========================
Use the following procedure ONLY if the Windows Installation
    Program is NOT being used.

-When running Windows for Workgroups with the ODI driver,
NOEARLYRX and NOEARLYTX keywords should be added to the
NET.CFG. Failure to include these keywords may result in
network errors and/or erratic Windows operation. This will
be supported in a future release.

-The default memory exclusion on some laptops is not large
enough for the Installation Program to successfully complete.
We recommend reviewing the CONFIG.SYS and verifying the
EMM386.EXE entry has a memory exclusion of at least 16K.
    . examples:
    . DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=C800-CBFF
    . or
    . DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=D000-D3FF

-When using a memory manager, be certain to exclude the memory
range being used by the Compaq Ethernet LAN Card. An 8K range
will need to be excluded within C000 to EF00.

    . example: device=c:\dos\himem.sys
    . device=c:\dos\emm386.exe x=D200-D3FF

This example excludes 8K starting at the D200 segment for
use by the Compaq Ethernet LAN Card software in a default
configuration. If the Compaq Ethernet LAN Card software is
configured for a memory address different from the default,
be certain to exclude the appropriate memory address range.

-The Compaq Ethernet LAN Card does not support the memory
     range D000-D0FF.

-On some machines D600-D6FF is not supported.

-The Compaq Ethernet LAN Card supports only "even" IO
     addresses example: 240, 260, 280, 300, 320, 340, 360.

If you use an "odd" IO address (example: 310, 330, 250)
the adapter will fail to initialize.

-To utilize full duplex capabilities, your network must have
full duplex hardware in place and enabled. If your network
connection does not have full duplex and you use the
FULLDUPLEX option, your network will become unusable due to
     excessive collisions.
