README.TXT Driver File Contents (doze.zip)

DOZE.COM is a utility file to disable the DOZE MODE temporarily or to change
the CPU clock at DOZE MODE between 3MHz and 6MHz, if the DOZE MODE is enabled
in the SETUP MENU.

BACKGROUND

It has been reported in the field that when the DOZE MODE is enabled in the
SETUP MENU, some communication softwares do not function properly because
of their CPU clock dependent features, especially when the CPU is running
under 6MHz which is the clock speed of the original IBM PC/AT.

To circumvent this kind of situation there can be several ways as follows;

1. Disable the DOZE MODE in the SETUP MENU

This has a drawback because the system cannot utilize a very efficient
battery power saving feature which is provided by the DOZE MODE.

2. Use the DOZE.COM utility

The current version of ROM BIOS slows down the CPU to 3MHz at DOZE MODE.
With DOZE.COM you can change the CPU clock speed of DOZE MODE to 6MHz
or you can disable the DOZE MODE until you turn off the system.

   USAGE

DOZE OFF ; Disables the DOZE MODE
DOZE H ; Sets the CPU clock 6MHz at DOZE MODE
DOZE L ; Sets the CPU clock 3MHz at DOZE MODE
DOZE /? ; Displays the USAGE of DOZE.COM

We have tested and found that most of the communication softwares work
properly when the CPU clock speed is 6MHz or above and increasing the
CPU clock speed 6MHz from 3MHz has very minimal effects on the power
consumption.

CONCLUSIONS

So we recommend that users set the CPU clock 6MHz at DOZE MODE by using
DOZE.COM utility and users do not have to sacrifice the power saving DOZE
MODE feature.

To save typing, users can include the DOZE.COM utility in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file so that every time the system boots it automatically sets the DOZE
MODE CPU clock speed as desired.

Please note that DOZE.COM has no effect at all if the DOZE MODE is
disabled or Global Power Management is disabled in the SETUP MENU.
