This file contains last-minute updates. Please read this file before
proceeding with the installation.

3.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPL3-SA AND RETAIL WINDOWS* 95
---------------------------------------------------------------
Note these installation instructions assume that you have correctly
installed Windows 95 on your computer and that your system is able to
boot and run without errors. If not, refer to the Windows 95 User
Manual for instructions before continuing.
1. Click Start, and then point to Settings.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click the System icon.
4. Click the Device Manager tab, and then click the plus sign next to
the Other Devices.
5. Click on the first unknown device and then click Remove.
6. Click OK to Confirm Device Removal.
7. Click on the second unknown device and then click Remove.
8. Click OK to Confirm Device Removal.
9. Click Refresh.
10. When prompted, select Driver from disk provided by hardware
manufacturer.
11. Click OK.
12. Click Browse.
13. Under Drive select the drive letter containing Yamaha Audio Drivers
Disk #1.
14. Click OK.
15. Click OK again.
16. Insert Disk #2 and click OK when prompted.
17. Insert Windows 95 CD/diskette if prompted.
18. Restart your computer to complete the installation.
NOTE: Installation of ALL Windows 95 multimedia components may be
required.

4.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPL3-SA ON OEM WINDOWS 95
-----------------------------------------------------------
Use these instructions when installing the device drivers immediately
after installing the Windows 95 operating system. When installed
the Yamaha* Sound System is classified as an Other Device.
1. During the installation of Windows 95, Windows 95 detects the
audio device as Unknown Device and prompts the user that
the Update Device Driver Wizard will complete the driver installation.
2. Insert the first diskette containing the audio device driver.
3. Click Next.
4. Windows 95 then prompts that the Yamaha OPL3-SAx Sound System
has been found.
5. Click Finish.
6. Repoint to the diskette drive if necessary, enter x:\ where x is
the floppy drive letter.
7. When prompted by Windows 95 insert the second diskette into the
diskette drive.
8. The gameport will then be detected and installed. If prompted by
Windows 95 please insert the Windows 95 CD to finish installation of
the joystick driver. Enter x:\WIN95 where x is the CD-ROM drive
letter.
NOTE: Installation of ALL Windows 95 multimedia components may be
required.

5.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPL3-SA2 OR OPL3-SA3 ON RETAIL WINDOWS 95

1. Click Start, and then point to Settings.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click the System icon.
4. Click the Device Manager tab, and then click the plus sign next to
the Other Devices.
5. If there is an entry called OPL3-SA2 or OPL3-SA3 SOUND CARD, select it
and click Remove.
6. Click the plus sign next to Sound, Video and game controllers.
7. Remove each installed sound, video, or game controller by selecting each
and then clicking Remove.
8. Click OK to close the Device Manager and close the Control Panel.
9. Insert YAMAMA driver diskette #1 into the diskette drive.
10. Click Start, and then point to Run.
11. Enter x:\SAUNINST.EXE, where x is the diskette drive letter, and click OK.
12. At the first OPLSAx screen select NEXT. Click NEXT again to continue.
13. When you see the screen "Uninstall Completed" click Finish.
14. Remove the diskette and click OK to restart your computer.
15. When your computer restarts. The first screen you see
"NEW HARDWARE FOUND" which will refer to an OPL3-SA2 or OPL3-SA3
Sound Board depending on your audio solution.
16. Insert YAMAHA driver diskette #1 into your diskette drive.
17. Select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" and
click on OK to continue.
18. At the next screen enter your diskette drive letter, and click OK
to continue.
19. Follow the instruction on your screen.
20. Insert the Windows 95 CD when prompted, and then click OK.
21. If your sound is not clear or your sound does not work properly,
restart your computer.
NOTE: Installation of ALL Windows 95 multimedia components may be
required.

6.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPL3-SA2 or OPL3-SA3 ON OEM WINDOWS 95

1. During the installation of Windows 95, Windows 95 detects the
audio as OPL3-SA3 Snd System and prompts the user that
the Update Device Driver Wizard will complete the installation
the drivers.
2. Insert the first diskette disk containing the audio device driver.
3. Click Next.
4. Windows 95 then prompts that the Yamaha OPL3-SAx Sound System
has been found.
5. Click Finish.
6. Repoint to the diskette drive if necessary, enter x:\ where x is
the floppy drive letter.
7. When prompted by Windows 95 insert the second diskette into the
diskette drive.
8. The gameport will then be detected and installed. If prompted by
Windows 95 please insert the Windows 95 CD to finish installation of
the joystick driver. Enter x:\WIN95 where x is the CD-ROM drive
letter.

7.0 OVERINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
----------------------------
If your systems has an earlier version of the Yamaha Sound System
device drivers:
1. Run "SAuninst.exe" from the first driver diskette.
2. When prompted restart your system and remove the all diskettes.
3. After reboot if prompted insert the first driver diskette.
4. If not prompted to insert driver diskette. Check the device
manager, remove any entries pertaining to Yamaha and reboot.
5. Follow the instructions on how to install the device
drivers above.

8.0 PLAYING HARDWARE WAVETABLE OR USING OPL4-ML
-----------------------------------------------
If your system has a hardware wavetable card installed or the OPL4-ML
installed you can enable hardware wavetable for playback of Midi files.
1. Double click on My Computer.
2. Double click on the Control Panel Applet.
3. Double click on the Multimedia Applet.
4. Click the Midi tab on the Multimedia Properties Window.
5. Highlight YAMAHA OPL3-SA MPU401.
6. Click OK.
7. Open Media Player by going into the START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES
| MULTIMEDIA | MEDIA PLAYER.
8. Once Media Player is open click on File.
9. Highlight and select Open.
10. Point to a Midi file and select it. Some Midi files are usually
contained in the \Windows\Media directory.
11. You can now play Midi files using Hardware Wavetable. Click on
Media Player's play button.

9.0 PLAYING SOFTWARE WAVETABLE

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Multimedia icon.
3. Select Yamaha OPL3SA SoftSynth and click OK.
4. Open Media Player by going into the START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES
| MULTIMEDIA | MEDIA PLAYER.
5. Open Volume Control by going into the START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES
| MULTIMEDIA | VOLUME CONTROL.
6. Click on the Options on the Volume Control menu bar.
7. Click on Properties.
8. Highlight and Select Software WT.
9. Click on the OK Button.
10. Use the Software WT section of the mixer to control the volume and
the balance of the software wavetable music.
11. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
12. Double-click the OPLSoftSynth Icon to change the Quality setting
to improve the sound quality, set the Reverb effect, or to set
the chorus effect.

10.0 ENABLING 3D ENHANCED EFFECTS (OPL3-SA3 ONLY)
-------------------------------------------------
1. Open Volume Control by going into the START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES
| MULTIMEDIA | VOLUME CONTROL.
2. Click on the Options on the Volume Control menu bar.
3. Click on Properties.
4. Highlight and Select 3D Enhanced WIDE.
5. Click on the OK Button.
6. Use the 3D Enhanced section of the mixer to control the spatial
effects in your audio playback.

11.0 USING SOFTWARE WAVETABLE IN A VIRTUAL DOS BOX APPLICATION

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the OPLSoftSynth Icon.
3. Set the Quality, Reverb, and Filter settings.
4. Set MPU401 OUT to Soft GM.
5. Click OK.
6. Setup the DOS application to use General MIDI or MPU401 at
I/O Address 330.
7. Start the DOS application. The sound quality should improve as
compared to normal FM synthesis.

12.0 REAL MODE DOS SUPPORT IN WINDOWS 95
----------------------------------------
Installation of DOS YAMAHA Audio Drivers for the OPL3-SA2 or OPL3-SA3
Sound System.
Follow this procedure to install DOS drivers if you are going to play
DOS games in REAL DOS Mode. This installation assumes that you
have previously installed Windows 95 on your computer and that your
system is able to boot and run without errors.
1. Choose START | PROGRAMS | WINDOWS EXPLORER.
2. Select VIEW | OPTIONS and select "Show all files," uncheck "Hide
MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered," then
click on OK.
3. Select START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES and choose NOTEPAD.
4. Choose FILE | OPEN and select WINDOWS\DOSSTART.BAT. Type the
following in the first line if it has not been previously entered:
Set Blaster=A220 I5 T4 P330
(this line will work providing your sound card resource settings
have not been previously changed).
5. Press the Enter key once so that the cursor drops down to the next
line.
6. On a new line type in the following: "SetupSA.exe /s"
7. Press the Enter key again so that the cursor moves to the next line.
8. You may also want to place your MOUSE and CD-ROM drivers in this
file as well (see manufacturer’s documentation for instructions on
installing mouse and CD-ROM device drivers).
9. Choose FILE | EXIT. You will then be asked if you wish to "Save
changes made to DOSSTART.BAT?" Select Yes to close this window and
save the file.
10. At the Windows 95 desktop choose START | PROGRAMS | WINDOWS EXPORER.
11. Insert the YAMAHA driver disk#1 into the diskette drive. In
the column on the left scroll up to the top and double click on the
diskette disk icon where the YAMAHA drivers are stored.
12. You will now see a list of files under "Contents of ..." on the
right. Click once on SASETUP it will become highlighted. Press and
hold down the Shift key while you click on the OPL3SA.INI file
(both files should now be highlighted).
13. Drag and drop both of these files into the root directory on your
hard disk. This disk is typically shown as (C:) on the left.
14. Select START | SHUTDOWN and choose "Restart the computer in MS-DOS
mode." You should then see C:\WINDOWS and a blinking cursor.
Optionally, you may also load this driver by pressing the F-8 key
when you first start up your computer. When you see the message
"Starting Windows 95" select Command Prompt Only. You will then be
placed at a C prompt, type DOSSTART to load YAMAHA Audio drivers.
15. You should now be able to install DOS based software which may
require pure DOS Mode.
This installation may not work correctly with a system that is set up
for multi-boot configuration.

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
