                            WINDOWS 95 TROUBLESHOOTING
 
 
 IN CASE:  You installed the adapter hardware before upgrading/installing 
           Windows 95:

           THEN: Do "REMOVING ALL TRACES OF A PREVIOUS DRIVER" procedure below.
                 Then follow the normal procedure to install the software and 
                 driver for Windows 95:  You may either return to the 
		 Windows 95 installation instructions on this support disk or 
		 go to chapter 1 of your "Installation Guide".
 
 IN CASE:  Expected "New Hardware Found" dialog box does not appear.  
           You have just installed the adapter hardware and returned to Windows, 
           but Windows does not give that dialog box.  Follow one of the 
           possibilities below:

       IF: You are installing the HP DeskDirect (J2573A) 10/100 ISA LAN
           Adapter then this is normal since this LAN card is not Plug-N-Play.
           Simply install using the supplied manufacturers support disk.
 
       IF: "New Hardware Found" did appear once but you ignored it:

           THEN: Do "RECOVERING FROM MISSING NEW..." procedure below.
 
       IF: You installed the adapter hardware before upgrading/installing 
           Windows 95:

           THEN: Do "REMOVING ALL TRACES OF A PREVIOUS DRIVER" procedure 
                 below. Then follow the normal procedure to install the software 
                 and  driver for Windows 95:  You may either return to the 
                 Windows 95 instructions on this support disk or go to chapter 
                 1 of your "Installation Guide".
 
 
 
 REMOVING ALL TRACES OF A PREVIOUS DRIVER PROCEDURE
 ==================================================
 
  1. * If you are already running HPVGSet, go to Step 2 below.
     * If you are not running HPVGSet, then boot your computer in DOS without 
       loading network software or drivers.  The procedure is found in the 
       "Installation Guide" in the "Reference for HP Support Disk" chapter in 
       the section "Before Running HPVGSet".  Then run the Setup utility on 
       the HP Support Disk.  From Setup's Support Disk Menu, select "View, 
       configure, or test card using HPVGSet".
 
  2. In DOS, change to the "inf" subdirectory (a hidden subdirectory) of the 
     "windows" directory on the hard drive:
          cd \windows\inf

     Delete the ".inf" file:
          del nethp*.inf

     Rename the 'netcd.inf' file temporarily to 'netcd.sav'
          ren netcd.inf netcd.sav
 
  3. Change to the "system" subdirectory of the "windows" directory:
          cd \windows\system

     Delete the ".sys" file:
          del hpddnd3.sys
 
  4. Restart your computer and enter Windows 95 normally.
 
  5. From the Control Panel (press [Start] and select Settings and then Control 
     Panel) do the follwoing:

     Open "System".  The "System Properties" dialog box appears.  
     Click on the "Device Manager" tab to open its dialog box.  
     Double-click on "Network Adapters".  
     Select the adapter product that you have installed.
     Click on [Remove].  
     Click [OK] in the "Confirm Device Removal" dialog box. 
     Close Device Manager and Control Panel.

  6. When you restart the computer, the "New Hardware Found" dialog box should 
     appear in Windows 95.  Re-install a driver for the adapter; choose one of 
     the following:
 
     * If you wish to install the driver, return to the Windows 95 installation
       instructions on this support disk, or go to chapter 1 of your 
       "Installation Guide".
 
  7. Rename 'netcd.sav' to 'netcd.inf' in the \windows\inf directory
        ren netcd.sav netcd.inf
 
 
 RECOVERING FROM MISSING "NEW HARDWARE FOUND" DIALOG BOX;
     USING THE "ADD NEW HARDWARE" WIZARD PROCEDURE
 ========================================================
 
 Possible Cause:  Ignoring the first instance of the "New Hardware Found" dialog 
 box when restarting the computer after installing adapter hardware.  This 
 happens when you select the response "Do not install a driver (Windows will not 
 prompt you again)".
 
  1. From the Control Panel, run the "Add New Hardware" Wizard.
 
  2. Click [Next >]. Select "Yes" for detection and click [Next >].
 
  3. Click [Next >] and wait for the device to be found.  Then click [Next >] 
     for manual installation.
 
  4. For "Hardware types", click "Network adapters" and [Next >].
 
  5. In the "Select Device" dialog box, click [Have Disk], and the "Install 
     From Disk" dialog box appears.
 
 6. Insert the HP Support Disk into the floppy drive.  Enter the path:
         a:\
    (This installs the default driver.)
 
 7. In the "Select Device" dialog box, click the product name of the specific 
    LAN adapter you have installed [OK].  Click [Next >].
 
 8. Click [Finish].  Close the Control Panel.
 
 9. Remove the support disk from the floppy drive and restart your computer.
 
 10.Verify that the LAN adapter works.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
