Identification To check the version of firmware on the Gateway DVD Recorder, follow these steps: 1. Turn the DVD Recorder on. 2. Go into the Setup screens by pressing the Setup button on the remote. 3. On the first screen in Setup there are numbers at the bottom of the screen. 4. The number set in the middle of the line beginning with "SN:" will be either 1114 or 1121. 5. This version of firmware is meant to update version 1114, 1121 systems to version 1139 systems. Installation 1. Download and double-click the 7514497.exe file. 2. The needed files are extracted to the C:\Cabs\7514497 folder. 3. Browse to the C:\Cabs\7514497 folder. Using whatever method you have available, such as Roxio software or Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP integrated support, copy all the files in the 7514378 folder to a CD-R. Program Use To update the version of firmware on the Gateway DVD Recorder, follow these steps: 1. Turn the DVD Recorder on. 2. Use the Open/Close button to open the DVD Recorder's drive. 3. Insert the DVD Recorder firmware update disc into the DVD Recorder. 4. Close the DVD tray using the Open/Close button. 5. When the on-screen menu appears, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select Ok, and then press the Enter button on the remote control. 6. Allow the CD to upgrade the unit. Do not turn off the system while upgrading. 7. After the CD is ejected from the DVD Recorder, remove the Firmware Update CD. 8. Power the DVD Recorder on and off. 9. The firmware has been updated properly to 1139. Removal Because the utility is located on the floppy disk, when restarting, remove the disk from the floppy disk drive so the computer starts to the hard drive. Troubleshooting If you have difficulties extracting the files or running the firmware update, copy the file to a different blank CDR media and then follow the installation steps in this document.
