Hints for installing the 3Com U.S.Robotics Sportster ISDN TA
external under Windows NT 4.0

1.) Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel. You will see an icon
    labelled "Modems".

2.) Double click on the "Modems" icon. All installed modems will be displayed.
    Click "Add" to add a new modem.   Enable "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a
    list." and click on "Next" to continue.

3.) Select "Have Disk". Click on "Browse" and select the file "MDMSPNT.INF" in the \WIN_NT
    directory of the installation disk.

4.) After selecting this file a list of 3 different modem profiles will be displayed.

5.) Select a modem profile you wish to use and repeat steps 2 to 4 to add further profiles if
    necessary.

6.) When complete, all your selected modem profiles will be available within dialup-networking 
    and certain communication software packages such as HyperTerminal.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
