HP DesignJet 1050C/1055CM PostScript Drivers for Windows 2000

Version number: 4.29

This ReadMe file contains software application notes for the PostScript
printer drivers for Windows 2000 supplied on the HP DesignJet 1050C/1055CM
CD-ROM.

SOFTWARE APPLICATION NOTES

Adobe PageMaker 6.0

Problem: The PPD file for your HP DesignJet does not appear in PageMaker's
"Print Document" dialog box.

Workaround: You should copy the HP1055C1.PPD or HP3500C1.PPD file to
the "PM6\RSRC\language\PPD4" folder on the disk drive where you have installed
PageMaker, and restart PageMaker. You should now be able to select the PPD
file for your HP DesignJet 1050C/1055CM.

Note: You are advised to open the "Print options" dialog box and ensure that
"Include PostScript error handler" is disabled.

Some applications do not support all driver features. Usually the
application simply ignores the feature, but in rare cases, a printing
error may occur.

The following table contains applications and driver features that may be
incompatible:

Application Driver Feature

CorelDraw 8 Scaling, N-up, Mirror Image, Negative Image

Workaround: Do not use these driver features when printing from the
above applications.

Adobe Photoshop

Problem: Your HP DesignJet 1050C/1055CM seems to receive your print, but
never prints it, or it is flushed from the printer's buffer memory.

Workaround: Make sure to send data as ASCII from PhotoShop (this will also
improve cross-platform compatibility for your Encapsulated PostScript files).

CorelDRAW

Problem: When using the driver to perform scaling, your drawing is clipped.

Workaround: Use CorelDRAW's scaling feature or the driver's "Scale to page:"
feature.

Lotus Freelance

Problem: By default, the size of the image in Freelance will be the same as
the page size you have selected. This will result in clipping when you send
the image to be printed because the printer will force certain margins around
the edges of the page.

Workaround: Freelance's "Preview" feature will show you if clipping will occur
at print time. Shrink the image in Freelance until the Preview feature shows
no clipping.

Macromedia FreeHand 7.0

If "Use PPD" in the Print dialog box is unchecked, FreeHand's "Fit to Page"
option will not work correctly.

Workaround: Ensure that the "Use PPD" box is checked. Furthermore, we
recommend choosing the English version of the PPD, in which a problem with
custom page sizes has been corrected (this problem still affects PPDs in other
languages).

QuarkXPress

Problem: The PPD file for your HP DesignJet does not appear in Quark's "Use
PDF for:" field in the "Printer Setup" dialog box.

Workaround: Find the directory where you have installed QuarkXPress, and
create a subdirectory called PPD, e.g. C:\XPRESS\PPD. Then copy the
HP1055C1.PPD or HP1050C1.PPD file into the new PPD directory.

Problem: The number of copies that you set using the driver isn't used at
print time.

Workaround: Use the "Copies" feature of QuarkXPress to set the number of
copies.

Microsoft Word 97

Problem: If you change AdobePS 5 settings within the Microsoft Word Page
Setup dialog box and select an option that conflicts with your current
configuration, AdobePS 5 cannot inform you of the conflict.

Workaround: Change the printer settings from the Print dialog box or from the
Printers folder.

Problem: The Copies option does not work properly when you use the N-up and
Collate options in Microsoft Word 97.

Workaround: Don't use the Copies option with the N-up and Collate options in
Microsoft Word 97.

PRINTER COMPATIBILITY NOTES

Problem: The printer's Nesting feature doesn't work. The printer will
effectively ignore requests to nest prints if you use your Novell network
software to send a banner message and your JetDirect card is not configured to
print it.

Workaround: Open JetAdmin's "PJL Settings" dialog box and enable "Banner
(Queue Server Mode)", or request that your Novell printer administrator
disables the "Print Banner" from the Novell print server.

Problems printing EPS files

You should avoid printing EPS files that were generated to contain "pure
binary" data (an option in some applications) with this driver.
