FreeBSD 3.1 Installation Guide for ET32/P/PC PCI Ethernet Adapter
==================================================================

This document briefly describes how to install ET32/P/PC Series
Plug and Play PCI Ethernet Adapter under FreeBSD 3.1 environment.

After you install ET32/P/PC Ethernet Adapter, by default, the
system kernel can auto-detect the NIC, however, you will still
need to configure the adapter.

Configuring the network adapter depends on whether you have
already installed FreeBSD or not.

==================================================================
1. Already Installed FreeBSD 3.1
==================================================================

a. Type in the following command at the system prompt

      ifconfig ed1 up xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

   This only configures the network adapter temporarily, you will
   need to re-type this command everytime restarting the PC.

b. Alternatively, you could add the following line to the rc.conf
   which is located in /etc directory.

      ifconfig_ed1="inet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

   This will permanently configure the network adapter. As rc.conf
   is an automatic script that runs each time the system starts.
   However, please note that the changes need to be saved and it
   will not take effect until the computer has been rebooted.

==================================================================
2. FreeBSD Not Installed
==================================================================

a. Install FreeBSD software.

b. During installation you will be asked whether you would
   like to configure any Ethernet or SLIP/PPP network device.

      Please answer "Yes".

c. It will then prompt you to enter the Required Network
   Interface Information. Please select:

      ed1(WD/SMC 80XX; NOVELL NE1000/2000; 3COM 3C503 CARD)

d. Make sure you provide other configuration details such as:
   DNS, subnet mask and default gateway.

e. If you have supplied all the correct information after
   the installation process, reboot your system.
