------------------------------------------------------ HP DesignJet ColorPro Series Printers Firmware Upgrade Instructions ------------------------------------------------------ -------- CONTENTS -------- INTRODUCTION FILE LIST INSTRUCTIONS SPECIAL NOTES MANUAL UPGRADE INTRODUCTION ============ This document contains instructions on how to upgrade the HP DesignJet ColorPro Series Printers firmware to its latest version. FILE LIST ========= You should have the following files in the same folder or directory as this Readme file: * upgrade.bat * base216.FLA (firmware upgrade file) * reflash.dd * choose.com * delay.com * readme.txt INSTRUCTIONS ============ 1. Disconnect the printer from the network and connect the printer to a computer via the parallel port. 2. Switch On the Printer. 3a.If you are in Windows 3.1x, Windows 95/98, run the UPGRADE.BAT batch file in MS-DOS mode. 3b.If you are in Windows NT 4.0, double-click the UPGRADE.BAT icon. 4. The "RED" LED on the printer will blink slowly and crossmarks (+) will appear on the LCD panel. 5. Upgrade is complete when: The LCD panel is filled with crossmarks (+). and one of the following actions will occur: (This will take approximately 5 minutes) (a) The printer will switch itself off, or (b) The printer will reset itself and "Ready" appears on the LCD panel. 6. Verify that the firmware is properly installed by pressing [Menu] on printer until INFORMATION MENU appears. Press [Item] until BASE FW VER appears. Press [Select]. You should see the version of the upgraded firmware. 7. Reset the printer's settings to factory defaults by pressing [Menu] on printer until RESETS MENU appears. Press [Item] until RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS appears. Press [Select]. 8. You will have to re-align the print heads again. 9. Reconnect the printer onto the network again. 10. END. SPECIAL NOTES: ============= 1. In Windows 3.1x & Windows 95/98, if the above upgrade process fails and/or you get a "Write fault error writing device" or "Parallel port timeout" error message, then Abort the upgrade process and execute the following mode command from the C: prompt: - "MODE LPT1: RETRY=p" 2. Upgrade the printer's firmware again using the belowmentioned MANUAL UPGRADE process. MANUAL UPGRADE ============== 1. Locate the firmware file (base216.FLA). (This file is in the same folder as this ReadMe document) 2. Disconnect the printer from the network and connect the printer to the parallel port (LPT1) of your computer. 3. Press and hold the <MENU> and <|> buttons on the Printer Control Panel while switching ON the printer. Notice that both the READY and ATTENTION LEDs will both light up. - The <|> button is green in color and located above the READY LED. 4. Enter the following command in pure DOS mode : COPY /B base216.FLA LPT1 5. The ATTENTION LED will blink slowly and crossmarks (+) will appear on the LCD panel. 6. The upgrade process is complete when the LCD panel is filled with crossmarks (+). (This will take approximately 5 minutes). And one of the following actions will occur: (a) The printer will switch itself off, or (b) The printer will reset itself and "Ready" appears on the LCD panel. 8. You may verify that the firmware is properly installed by pressing [Menu] on printer until INFORMATION MENU appears. Press [Item] until BASE FW VER appears. Press [Select]. You should see the upgraded firmware version. 9. Reset the printer's settings to factory defaults by pressing [Menu] on printer until RESETS MENU appears. Press [Item] until RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS appears. Press [Select]. 10. You will have to re-align the print heads again. 11. Reconnect the printer onto the network again. 12. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
