======================================================================
OPEN ISSUES
======================================================================
The following sections contain issues that have been identified in
testing:
-------------------------------------------------
Dell OpenManage Connection Uninstall
-------------------------------------------------
The Dell OpenManage Connection Uninstall cannot uninstall any of
the Dell OpenManage Connection applications that are running.
Therefore, you must close all applications before starting the
uninstall.
-------------------------------------------------
Dell OpenManage Connection and Internet Explorer
-------------------------------------------------
Dell OpenManage Connection does not run on
Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
-------------------------------------------------
Deleting Nodes Using Dell OpenManage IT Assistant
-------------------------------------------------
NOTICE: Do not remove all the nodes from the Dell OpenManage
IT Assistant. If you do, they cannot be recovered.
If you delete a single node from Dell OpenManage IT Assistant
and the deleted node does not disappear from the HP OpenView
NNM map, perform the following steps:
1. On the HP OpenView NNM map, highlight the system or device
that you deleted using Dell OpenManage IT Assistant.
2. In HP OpenView, click "Tools"--> "Dell"--> "Discover Selected".
3. Refresh the map.
If the deleted node disappears from the HP OpenView NNM map,
you have completed this procedure.
If the deleted node still appears on the map, proceed with
steps 4 and 5.
4. Stop the Dell OpenManage IT Assistant Network Monitoring
Service.
5. Start the Dell OpenManage IT Assistant Connection Service.
If a user deletes a node from within Dell OpenManage IT
Assistant and later wants to discover the node, the user must
exit from HP OpenView NNM, and then relaunch it before the nodes
are discovered and show up in Dell OpenManage IT Assistant.
To relaunch HP OpenView NNM, perform the following steps:
1. Close the Dell OpenManage IT Assistant.
2. Exit HP OpenView NNM.
3. Click the "Start" button, click "Run", and type "ovstop".
Wait for the "ovstop" command to complete.
4. Click the "Start" button, click "Run", and type "ovstart".
5. Launch HP OpenView NNM.
6. Launch Dell OpenManage IT Assistant.
-------------------------------------------------
Installing Dell OpenManage Connection to the Root
Directory of a Physical Drive
-------------------------------------------------
Do not install the Dell OpenManage Connection to the root
directory of a physical drive. You must install the application
program to a subdirectory.
-------------------------------------------------
Recovering Dell System Icons After Uninstalling
Client Instrumentation
-------------------------------------------------
If you are running the Dell OpenManage Connection on a system that
has Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation installed, and if you
uninstall the client instrumentation, Dell OpenManage Connection is
unable to display the Dell system icons. To correct this problem,
reinstall Dell OpenManage Connection.
-------------------------------------------------
Recovering Device and Platform Symbols After
Uninstalling Dell OpenManage Connection
-------------------------------------------------
After you uninstall Dell OpenManage Connection, all symbols for
devices that were originally classified as Dell devices become
generic symbols on the HP OpenView NNM map. To recover device and
platform type information in the Internet Protocol (IP) map symbols,
perform the following steps:
1) Close the HP OpenView NNM map.
2) Click the "Start" button, click "Run", and type:
"ovtopofix -a"
You can also run "ovtopofix -a" from the MS-DOS(R) prompt.
-------------------------------------------------
Using SNMP with Dell OpenManage Connection
-------------------------------------------------
Using Dell OpenManage Connection for HP OpenView NNM for Windows
NT and Windows 2000 implies that systems are instrumented so that
they can be discovered as Dell systems through the use of Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The following statement more
correctly describes the management capabilities of Dell
OpenManage Connection:
Dell OpenManage products also provide varied capabilities to
Information Technology (IT) professionals responsible for maintaining
networks with Desktop Management Interface (DMI) and SNMP-instrumented
systems.
-------------------------------------------------
Discovering PowerVault(TM) Storage Devices
-------------------------------------------------
If the Dell OpenManage Connection fails to identify the PowerVault 35F
and 50F, ensure that the IP addresses of the devices you want to
discover are registered with the Domain Naming System (DNS). To add an
IP address, modify the host file located in the
"<WINNT>\system32\drivers\etc" directory.
-------------------------------------------------
Maximum Allowable Path Length for Setup Programs
-------------------------------------------------
If the total path length for the location of your source files
(location of the "setup.exe" file) exceeds 73 characters, the setup
program fails to run.
This limitation is not specific to this product. The limitation
applies to any setup executables created by InstallShield Wizard.
-------------------------------------------------
Conflicting Host and System Names Cause a
Failure of Management Station Installation
-------------------------------------------------
During the installation of Management Station, the following error
message might occur:
"Setup determined that your machine and the domain name server
might not agree on your IP hostname. Please check your settings
in the Control Panel--> Network applet. Setup now exits."
You can resolve this issue by editing the local system's host file
to match the hostname found in the network database.
-------------------------------------------------
Incorrect Memory Display
(Problem Seen From Dell OpenManage IT Assistant)
-------------------------------------------------
Because of a software limitation, systems with more than 2 gigabytes (GB)
of memory might incorrectly report the size of the system memory.
Individual memory devices continue to function properly. This problem
does not degrade error checking and correcting (ECC) memory protection
or performance.
-------------------------------------------------
Node Labeled Incorrectly in Topology Map
-------------------------------------------------
With HP OpenView NNM, a node might be labeled with an incorrect name
in the topology map when Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) clusters on
the networks are being discovered by the HP OpenView NNM. The nodes
that might be incorrectly labeled are part of the cluster itself. The
incorrect label is the name associated with an IP address that is a
resource in the cluster. For example, if you have a two-node MSCS
cluster named "CLUSTER" with member nodes "MEMBER1" and "MEMBER2,"
the node icons associated with "MEMBER1" and "MEMBER2" might be
labeled "CLUSTER."
-------------------------------------------------
Loading MIBs Into the SNMP Management Console
-------------------------------------------------
The Dell management information base (MIB) is SNMP version 2-
compliant. Some SNMP management consoles only support SNMP version 1
and might not load the Dell MIB properly.
-------------------------------------------------
Coexistence of Dell OpenManage Connection and
Dell OpenManage Client Administrator
-------------------------------------------------
Dell OpenManage Connection cannot operate with Dell OpenManage Client
Administrator. Do not install Dell OpenManage Client Administrator
on the same system as Dell OpenManage Connection.
The Dell OpenManage IT Assistant program installed with Dell
OpenManage Connection for HP OpenView NNM replaces Dell OpenManage
Client Administrator and Dell Server Console and should be used for
management of both servers and desktops.
-------------------------------------------------
Using the HP OpenView MIB Browser With
Dell OpenManage HIP 3.3 or Later
-------------------------------------------------
Dell OpenManage HIP 3.3 or later provides instrumentation for a new
MIB that occupies a different part of the MIB tree than previous
versions of Dell OpenManage HIP. When using the MIB browser on Dell
OpenManage HIP 3.2 and earlier, use the
".iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.dell.server"
branch under the Dell enterprise. When using the MIB browser on Dell
OpenManage HIP 3.3 or later, use the
".iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.dell.server2" branch.
If you browse the Dell MIBs using the wrong branch of the MIB against
a given version of the Dell OpenManage HIP, you might see an error
such as:
"Error: SNMP: A general failure occurred on the agent."
Also, in general, you cannot browse alert tables, event generation
tables, and trap tables.
-------------------------------------------------
Duplicate Traps Posted in the HP OpenView NNM
Event Browser
-------------------------------------------------
A single event might appear several times in the HP OpenView Event
Browser. This situation occurs from a timing issue between the
"NNM DMI Discovery" and the "DMI2SNMP" mapper on a managed node.
The timing issue is resolved when "NNM DMI Discovery" updates its
information as a result of configuration polls.
--------------------------------------------------
Lost "ovtopmd" Connection
--------------------------------------------------
During the installation of Dell OpenManage Connection, an event
might appear in the Event Viewer stating that the "ovtopmd" connection
is lost. After you reboot the system, "ovtopmd" starts and runs
with all of the HP OpenView NNM programs.
--------------------------------------------------
LSI Logic Application Version Number
--------------------------------------------------
The version number displayed on the LSI Logic splash screen is
different than the version number reported by DCVerify. The actual
version is 2.02.03, and the installed version is correct.
--------------------------------------------------
DRAC II Web Console Version Number
--------------------------------------------------
The version number displayed on the DRAC II Web Console splash screen
is different than the version number reported by DCVerify. The actual
version is 2.3.00, and the installed version is correct.
