1. Troubleshooting Notes
------------------------

1.1 Unable to re-establish connection between PC and printer after printer
is turned off using the printer's power button.

Solution: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for
10 seconds, reconnect the power cord, then turn the printer on using
the power button. If the problem persists, disconnect the power cord
from the back of the printer and restart the PC. After the PC has
restarted, reconnect the power cord to the printer and power it on.

1.2 Printer does not work after upgrading the operating System from Windows
98, Windows 98SE, or Windows ME to Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Solution: Disconnect the printer. Uninstall the printer software by
selecting "Photosmart 320,370,7400,8100,8400 Series" from Add/Remove
Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Restart the system, then run the
Setup.exe program on the software CD that came with the printer. Follow
    the installation directions.

1.3 Installation fails when computer is started with two printers attached.

Solution: First disconnect both printers. Then uninstall the printer
software by selecting "Photosmart 320,370,7400,8100,8400 Series" from
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Restart the system.
Reinstall the printer software by running the Setup.exe program on the
software CD that came with the printer. When prompted to attach a
printer, attach only one printer. Only after installation of the first
printer has completed, attach the second printer. The second printer
    will install automatically.

1.4 After disconnecting and uninstalling an earlier series Photosmart
printer, your new Photosmart series printer no longer works.

Solution: Disconnect the new printer. Then uninstall the printer
software by selecting "Photosmart 320,370,7400,8100,8400 Series"
from Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Restart the
system. Reinstall the printer software by running the Setup.exe program
on the software CD that came with the printer. Follow the installation
    instructions.

1.5 The installation process pauses and appears to have stopped, but the
PC is still showing disk drive activity.

Solution: In some cases, the software installer needs to search for
and update certain modules on the system, and this may take several
minutes to complete. Wait for the necessary operations to complete.

1.6 In Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE, the printer sometimes will not
reconnect when you bring the system out of Standby mode.

Solution: Reboot the computer and the printer should reconnect.

1.7 When printing more than one image on the same page, and "Borderless
Auto Fit" is selected in the printer properties, some of the images
    appear to be cut off.

Solution: Do no use "Borderless Auto fit" when printing more than one
image per page. It is intended to be used only for printing a single
    image.

1.8 If an install fails or is canceled before it is completed, and
subsequent installation attempts are unsuccessful as well.

Solution: Disconnect the printer. Then uninstall the printer software
by selecting "Photosmart 320,370,7400,8100,8400 Series" from
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Restart the system.
Install the printer software by running the Setup.exe program on the
software CD that came with the printer. Follow the installation
instructions. Do not connect the printer until instructed to do so.

1.9 If your printer is connected to a local network that is running
firewall software and you change the IP address of the printer, the
printer may not be rediscovered by the system.

Solution: Temporarily disable the firewall softare. The printer should
be discovered. Restart the firewall software.

1.10 If you experience trouble unloading images from an image capture
device while a screen saver or power management feature is activated

Solution: Disable these features during the unload operation. The
settings of these features can be configured from the Windows Control
    Panel.

2. Memory Card Access Notes
---------------------------

Never pull a memory card out during a read or write access. This action
may leave the memory card corrupted and the images unreadable. The light
next to the memory card slot on the printer lights up when a card is
inserted and blinks during a read or write access. In order to safely
remove the memory card, right-click the card icon in the Windows system
tray and select "Prepare to remove card". Then wait for the memory card
light to stop blinking.

If possible, format memory cards with the image capture device in which
they are normally used. Do not use Windows Explorer to format cards.

The NTFS File system (available in Windows 2K and XP) is not supported on
memory cards. Do not attempt to format a memory card with the NTFS file
system.

3. Input/Output Notes
---------------------

When the printer is connected and is working properly, it is normal that
several "Dot4" device entries appear in the Windows Device Manager (for
example: Dot4, Dot4Print, Dot4Usb, and Dot4 Setup Support).

4. Application Interactions
---------------------------

General:

After a print job, some applications do not save or remember changes made
to Printer Properties in the printer driver software. Properties may be
required to be set for each print job.

Roxio Easy CD Creator 5:

Issues can occur when running Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 and the printer
software at the same time on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Update Easy CD
Creator 5 with patches from the Roxio website:
