PowerVault 110T-SDLT Tape Drive Firmware Update
 
This upgrade adds the latest performance enhancing features to the 
PowerVault 110T SDLT tape drive. This release will update the drive code 
level to V49.
Prior to upgrading:
- Ensure the tape drive is unloaded and the SCSI bus is in an idle state 
(stop and or hold all backup applications).
- Confirm a valid tape device driver is installed and running on the 
computer attached to the tape drive.
 
 	NOTE: x: represents the system root drive letter.
 
Upgrading the PowerVault 110T SDLT Tape Drive Firmware
Installing the upgrade utility:

1. Download and run the file SDLT_V49_Update.exe from a Microsoft Windows Based System.  
   Go to the directory x:\dell\drivers\R48488\Update Utility

2. Click the setup.exe program and follow the directions to complete the installation.  
   This will install the SDLT Drive Firmware upgrade tool.  Rebooting your system is necessary 
   for the installation.  You may want to print out these instructions.
   This program will create the default directory C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update and 
   install a shortcut on your Start menu under Programs -> Quantum Applications.
   Upgrading the Firmware:

3. Click the SDLT Update shortcut under Start -> Programs -> Quantum Applications or 
   click SDLTUpdate.exe in the C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update folder.

4. The program will automatically scan for all SDLT tape drives connected to the system.

5. Find the SDLT tape drives on your system using the program and check the box next 
   to each.  If you have more than one drive and want to select them all click on Select 
   All Tape Drives under Step 2 of the left side of the window. 

6. Click Update Drive(s) under Step 3 on the left side of the window.  Click “next” when 
   the Update Wizard appears.  You will be prompted to select the firmware file.  Browse to 
   the directory x:\dell\drivers\R48488\Firmware File\ and select SDLT1_V49_del-1.img. 

7.  Click “next” and a warning message will appear.  After reading the message click “next”.

8. The firmware upgrade process will begin.  If more than one drive is selected this is 
   done serially and each drive will take up to four minutes to complete.  LEDs on the tape 
   drive will flash during the upgrade.  
   
CAUTION : Do not remove power to the tape drive during this process.

9. The utility will tell you when the firmware update is complete.  It is recommended 
   that you restart your system after the upgrade.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
