This document contains instructions for installing the Quantum DLTtape(tm) tape driver for the Windows NT 4.0 Intel platform. This driver is for the Intel Platform only. If you are currently using either the Quantum DLT7000, DLT7000.sys or the Quantum DLT device QNTMDLT.sys you should upgrade to this new driver. Driver History: Version 1.0 1. Initial release of driver, support Intel platform. Version 1.1 1. Added capability to turn compression on and off via the software. 2. Increased block size to 32 KB. 3. Added support for a number of additional DLT devices. As part of this change, the file has been renamed to QNTMDLT.SYS and this file may be used to replace the DLTTAPE.SYS file supplied by Microsoft or used in conjunction with it. Version 1.2 1. Added support for the Quantum DLT2140 and DLT 4140. Version 1.3 1. Added a check for odd-block transfers. Version 1.4 1. Added code to return the capacity of the current tape in the drive for a GetMediaParameters call. NOTE: Driver returns Native Capacity only. 2. Added code to return the tape remaining on the current tape in the drive for a GetMediaParameters call. NOTE: Driver returns Native Tape Remaining only. 3. Add Code to support the DLT8000 and TZ85 Tape Drives. 4. Add Code to support TANDBERG DLT drives. Version 1.5 1. Add support for COMPAQ DLT4000 Version 1.6 1. Add support for COMPAQ DLT8000. Corrected bug in GetMediaParameters to return the correct Tape Remaining instead of 0. Version 1.7 Not Released. Version 1.8 1. Added support for Compaq DLT8000 and SuperDLT drives for Compaq, Tandberg and Quantum. 2. Removed implied drive buffer flush in the GetPosition API. Version 1.9 1. Modified the WriteMarks function so that IGNORE_ERRORS flag is not returned for Zero Filemarks request. 2. Modified OEMSETUP.INF description string to indicate support for DLT/SuperDLT Drives. Version 2.0 1. Added support for SDLT320 model drives. 2. Re-compiled driver using Windows XP DDK. MAKING AN INSTALLATION DISKETTE: After running the executable file, there will be 4 files extracted to the directory. These are: DISK1 OEMSETUP.INF QNTMDLT.SYS README.TXT (this file) To make the installation diskette, copy the following 3 files to a formatted 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. DISK1 OEMSETUP.INF QNTMDLT.SYS INSTALLING THE DRIVER: Installing the driver for DLT8000 and DLT7000 tape drives only: 1. Shutdown Windows NT 4.0 if it is running and power down the system. 2. Connect the DLT tape drive to the system. Ensure that the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. Power on the tape drive. 3. Startup the system and log into Windows NT. 4. From the "Start" menu, bring up the Windows NT Control Panel. 5. Select the "Tape Drive" icon from the Control Panel. The system scans for installed tape devices. 5a. If the Tape Devices dialog box indicates that the DLT7000 driver (DLT7000.sys) or an older version of QNTMDLT.sys is installed, it must be removed. Click on the "DRIVERS" tab. Highlight the DLT7000 or QNTMDLT.sys driver and select "Remove". After the driver is removed select "Add". Continue at step 6. 5b. If the tape drive is displyed with "Not Started", click on the "DRIVERS" tab. When the next window is displayed select "Add". 6. In the "Install Driver" dialog box, click on "Have Disk". The "Install from Disk" dialog box is displayed. 7. Insert the disk containing the QNTMDLT.sys driver into a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive. Change the drive letter in the "Copy From" field to the floppy drive and click OK. A new "Install Driver" dialog box is displayed. 8. Double-click on the following: "Quantum DLT/SuperDLT Driver for NT 4.0 - Ver 2.0". The "New Tape Device Found" dialog box may be displayed. 9. If the "New SCSI Tape Device Found" dialog is displayed click OK. The "Windows NT Setup" dialog box is displayed. 10. In the "Windows NT Setup" dialog box, change the source drive letter to the floppy drive containing the driver disk. Click "Continue". 11. The "Tape Device" dialog box is displayed again. Click "OK". The driver will be installed on the machine. 12. When installation is complete, close the Control Panel. You must reboot Windows NT. After rebooting, ensure the driver is installed by checking the Tape Devices in the Control Panel. Installing the driver for all DLTtape tape drives: 1. Shutdown Windows NT 4.0 if it is running and power down the system. 2. Connect the DLT tape drives to the system. Ensure that the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. 3. Startup the system and log into Windows NT. 4. From the "Start" menu, bring up the Windows NT Control Panel. 5. Select the "Tape Drive" icon from the Control Panel. The system scans for installed tape devices. 6. The "Tape Devices" dialog box is displyed. All DLTtape devices are shown there. If the dialog box indicates that any DLTtape drivers are installed, they must be removed before continuing. Click on the "DRIVERS" tab. Highlight the DLTtape tape drivers and select "Remove". When all DLTtape drivers have been removed, select "Add". 7. In the "Install Driver" dialog box, click on "Have Disk". The "Install from Disk" dialog box is displayed. 8. Insert the disk containing the QNTMDLT.sys driver into a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive. Change the drive letter in the "Copy From" field to the floppy drive and click "OK". A new "Install Driver" dialog box is displayed. 9. Double-click on the following: "Quantum DLT/SuperDLT Driver for NT 4.0 - Ver 2.0". The "New Tape Device Found" dialog box may be displayed. 10. If the "New SCSI Tape Device Found" dialog box is displayed click "OK". The "Windows NT Setup" dialog box is displayed. 11. In the "Windows NT Setup" dialog box, change the source drive letter to the floppy drive containing the driver disk. Click "Continue". 12. The "Tape Device" dialog box is displayed again. Click "OK". The driver will be installed on the system. 13. When installation is complete, close the Control Panel. You must reboot Windows NT. After rebooting, ensure the driver is installed by checking the Tape Devices in the Control Panel. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
