**IMPORTANT**
Prior to using this file please visit the Dell website at http://support.dell.com to upgrade the system BIOS with the most current version available before implementing this fix. 

This file contains the fix needed to correctly enable S3 sleep states under Microsoft Windows XP while a USB device is connected.   
Dell highly recommends that you follow the steps below to avoid any issues with the current Windows XP sleep states.

Enable S3 on your system only after you have completed installing, upgrading or reinstalling Windows XP on your Dell system. Follow the steps below: 

1.  Locate the file ENABLE_S3.reg. 
2.  Use the left mouse button to double click on the ENABLE_S3 icon.
3.  A registry editor dialog box will appear with the message stating: "Are you sure you want to add the information in C:\Dell\ENABLE_S3.reg to the registry?" (the exact message may differ if you copied this file to a different directory.)
4.  Click YES.
5.  The next Registry Editor dialog box will confirm "Information in C:\Dell\ENABLE_S3.reg has been successfully entered into the registry"
6. Click OK.
7. Click on the START button.
8. Click TURN OFF COMPUTER in the lower right portion of the menu.
9. The Turn Off Computer dialog box will appear.
10. Select RESTART.
12. Remove any floppy diskette from the floppy drive while the computer starts to shut down and reboot.
13. Once Windows XP has rebooted your system is ready for use.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
