Upgrading Firmware for the V1.1 DELL PERC 2 Controller ReadMe ____________________________________________________________ This ReadMe provides instructions on how to upgrade the firmware for the V1.1 PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller 2, hereinafter referred to as the PERC 2 or PERC 2 controller. ____________________________________________________________ TABLE_OF_CONTENTS 1.0 Introducing the Product 2.0 Contents of the Kit 3.0 Performing the PERC 2 Firmware Upgrade ____________________________________________________________ 1.0 Introducing_the_Product The PERC 2 controller integrates advanced RAID technology with state-of-the-art controller hardware to deliver industry-leading performance, data availability, and storage management features. You upgrade your PERC 2 firmware when a maintenance fix needs to be applied to the currently installed PERC 2 firmware or as part of an upgrade to an existing PERC 2 software installation. 2.0 Contents_of_the_Kit The PERC 2 firmware resides on two diskettes labeled: DELL PERC 2 PERC 2 Firmware Disk 1 of 2 DELL PERC 2 PERC 2 Firmware Disk 2 of 2 The AFU (Adaptec Flash Utility) is the program that updates PERC 2 firmware by reprogramming the flash memory on the controller. The PERC 2 firmware consists of a single image called a User Flash Image or UFI. Since the UFI is too large for a single diskette, the image is split across multiple diskettes. The disks contain the following files: o Disk 1 of 2 o This README file o afu.exe (This is the AFU executable) o perc201.ufi (This is the user flash image file 1 of 2.) o Disk 2 of 2 o perc202.ufi (This is the user flash image file 2 of 2.) 3.0 Performing_the_PERC_2_Firmware_Upgrade The following instructions explain how to upgrade the PERC 2 firmware. NOTE: The PERC 2 controller you are updating must already be running Build 1448 or higher. Otherwise, the AFU will not work and may corrupt your flash. The firmware build number is displayed in the PERC 2 BIOS banner during system startup, and will also be shown by the "afu list" command described in the following steps. To upgrade your PERC 2 controller to a newer version of the PERC 2 firmware, follow these steps: 1. Shut down your system. 2. Insert the bootable diskette labeled: DELL PERC 2 PERC 2 Firmware Disk 1 of 2 3. Power on the system. If the system has not been set up to boot from the diskette, please read your manufacturer's instructions on how to set this up. 4. At the DOS prompt, specify the following command and press <Enter>: \> afu list This command displays a list of the controllers in your system. Take note of the controller(s) you would like to update and its number (or numbers if there are more than one). Verify that the controller you wish to update is identified as a PERC 2. NOTE: If you are prompted to "Insert the disk labeled AAC-364 Firmware Disk1", your controller is configured as an Adaptec AAC-364 instead of a DELL PERC 2, and cannot be upgraded with this kit. 5. If you want to upgrade the PERC 2 firmware on one controller go to step 5a. If you want to upgrade the PERC 2 firmware on more than one controller go to step 5b. If you want to upgrade the PERC 2 firmware on all controllers go to step 5c. The following is the command syntax for upgrading the PERC 2 firmware, where CONTROLLER_NUMBER is the number of the controller whose firmware you want to upgrade. afu update /c CONTROLLER_NUMBER a. Upgrading a Single Controller To upgrade the PERC 2 firmware on a single controller, type the following at the DOS prompt, replacing CONTROLLER_NUMBER with the number of the controller whose firmware you are upgrading. \> afu update /c CONTROLLER_NUMBER To upgrade controller 0, for example, you would type the following: \> afu update /c 0 b. Upgrading Multiple Controllers To upgrade the PERC 2 firmware on multiple controllers, type the following at the DOS prompt, replacing the comma-separated list of CONTROLLER_NUMBER_? with the numbers of the controllers whose firmware you are updating: \> afu update /c CONTROLLER_NUMBER_1, CONTROLLER_NUMBER_2 To upgrade controllers 0, 2, and 3 for example, you would type the following: \> afu update /c 0, 2, 3 c. Upgrading All Controllers To upgrade the PERC 2 firmware on all controllers, type the following at the DOS prompt: \> afu update /c all 6. The AFU will read the first part of the flash image from Disk 1 of 2 (which should still be in the diskette drive). 7. The AFU tells you to remove the diskette labeled: DELL PERC 2 PERC 2 Firmware Disk 1 of 2 The AFU tells you to insert the diskette labeled: DELL PERC 2 PERC 2 Firmware Disk 2 of 2 The AFU will read the second part of the flash image, and then perform a checksum operation to verify that all the data was read correctly. 8. After the AFU reads the UFI the disks, it shuts down the controller and updates the PERC 2 firmware. A verification of the operation follows. The results of each operation are displayed on the screen as it happens. 9. After the firmware upgrade completes, the AFU will exit. After the AFU exits, remove diskette two and insert diskette one. 10. Type the following command, replacing CONTROLLER_NUMBER(S) with either the controller number or a comma-separated list of controller numbers of controller(s) whose firmware you just updated. \> afu version /c CONTROLLER_NUMBER(S) If you updated the firmware on controllers 0, 2, and 3, for example, you would type the following: \> afu version /c 0, 2, 3 11. The AFU displays the version information for the selected controllers. Verify that the version displayed is correct. 12. Remove the diskette from the tape drive and reboot the system.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
