PowerVault 128T Library and Tape Drive Firmware

This release contains the following firmware versions for the PowerVault 128T Tape Library:
* PowerVault 128T LTO Library Firmware 1.31.D
* PowerVault 128T LTO Tape Drive Firmware E15V 4.183
* PowerVault 128T SDLT Library Firmware 1.35.D
* PowerVault 128T SDLT Tape Drive Firmware V37

Downloading the upgrade

1. Download and run the file 128TA00.EXE. 

NOTE: You must download this file to the system connected to the PowerVault 128T.

2.  Run the executable file by double-clicking the icon.  

3.  Select Continue to extract the files.

4.  The files will extract to the folder x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00, where x:\ is used to denote the system root path.

5.  If the above folder does not exist, select OK to create it.

6.  Locate the file readme.txt in the above-mentioned folder.  This file contains the install instructions listed below.

Directory of file contents:

x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00 - Contains the update procedures.
x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\LTO Library - Contains the LTO library firmware.
x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\SDLT Library - Contains the SDLT library firmware.
x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\LTO Drive - Contains the LTO tape drive firmware.
x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\Tape Tools - Contains Dell Library and Tape Tools software that can be used for updating firmware.
x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\SDLT - Contains SDLT Tape Drive Firmware and upgrade program

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T LTO Library Firmware

There are two options for upgrading the PowerVault 128T Library firmware.  These are through the Dell Library and Tape Tools software as well as through the PowerVault 128T remote management card.

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T Library Firmware through Dell Library and Tape Tools

1. Go to the directory x:\Dell\Drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\Tape Tools.  Click on the program Dell - LTT_Install.exe and follow the directions to complete the installation.  This program will create the default directory x:\Program Files\Dell Library & Tape Tools.  Do NOT execute the utility at this time.

2. This will also install a copy of the Dell Library & Tape Tools icon on your system desktop.

3. A reboot of the machine may be necessary to update the system ASPI files.


Upgrading the firmware

1. Click on the Dell Library & Tape Tools icon on your system desktop or click on HP_LTT.exe in the directory x:\Program Files\Dell Library & Tape Tools.

2. The Dell Library & Tape Tools - Version 2.7 window will appear.  

3. Click on Continue.

4. After the device scan is complete, select HP C7200 under the By Product tab

5. Click on the Firmware icon above.  A warning message may appear that states:

There are no matching firmware files in the currently selected firmware folder.

This is normal since the firmware upgrade directory has not been specified.  This will be performed in the next few steps.

6. Instructions for upgrading will appear on the left screen.  

7. In the local firmware files tab of the Dell Library and Tape Tools application, select the firmware location by Browsing to the directory x:\Dell\Drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\LTO Library

8. Click on the update firmware tab and check the box next to the Library (C7200)

9. Click on Start Update button.

10. A warning message will appear.  After reading the message, click OK.

11. The library will begin to upgrade the firmware.  This may take up to 30 minutes.  The front panel of the PV128T will display the upgrade status.  Do not remove power to the library during this time.

12. At the end of the upgrade, a window will appear with the results of the upgrade.

13. Once the upgrade is complete, click OK.  The library will reboot itself once the upgrade is complete.

14. Once the library has been upgraded, close the application.

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T LTO Library Firmware through the remote management card

The PowerVault 128T Library Firmware is updated through the remote management card of the library.  The remote management card must have a valid IP address.  

1. Open a web browser from the computer that contains the firmware files.

2. Point the web browser to the IP address of the remote management card that is contained in the library whose firmware is to be updated.

3. Select Configuration from the left menu and then select Firmware Download from the drop down choices.

4. Browse to x:\Dell\Drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\LTO Library and select the 1.31.D file.

5. Click on Start Download.

6. Enter the administrator password.  Default password is 11111111.

7. Read the warning and press OK to continue

8. The library will begin to upgrade the firmware.  This may take up to 30 minutes.  The front panel of the PV128T will display the upgrade status.  Do not remove power to the library or close any windows during this time.

9. Once the upgrade is complete, the library will reboot itself.

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T LTO Tape Drive Firmware

NOTE: DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE FILE ON THE POWERVAULT 110T LTO TAPE DRIVE OR POWERVAULT 136T LTO TAPE DRIVE.  THIS FILE IS ONLY FOR USE WITH LTO TAPE DRIVES CONTAINED IN THE POWERVAULT 128T.

1. Click on the Dell Library & Tape Tools icon on your system desktop or click on HP_LTT.exe in the directory x:\Program Files\Dell Library & Tape Tools.

2. The Dell Library & Tape Tools - Version 2.7 window will appear.  

3. Click on Continue.

4. The upgrade utility will search for any Dell PowerVault 128T LTO drives attached to the system.

5. Click on the By Product tab in the left frame.

6. Select the HP C7200 library.

7. Click on the Firmware icon above.  A warning message may be appear that states:

There are no matching firmware files in the currently selected firmware folder.

This is normal since the firmware upgrade directory has not been specified.  This will be performed in the next few steps.

8. Instructions for upgrading will appear on the left screen.  

9. In the local firmware files tab of the Dell Library and Tape Tools application, select the firmware location by Browsing to the directory x:\Dell\Drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\LTO Drive

10. Click on the update firmware tab and check the boxes of the LTO drive(s) that you wish to upgrade.

11. Click on Start Update button.

12. A warning message will appear.  After reading the message, click OK.

13. The drive will begin to upgrade the firmware.  This may take up to 2 minutes.  The 4 LEDs on the drive will flash and go solid during the upgrade.  Do not remove power to the drive during this time.

14. At the end of the upgrade, a window will appear with the results of the upgrade.

15. Once the upgrade is complete, click OK.

16. This process will need to be repeated for each tape drive contained in the PowerVault 128T Library.  

17. Once all drives have been upgraded, close the application.

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T SDLT Library Firmware

There are two options for upgrading the PowerVault 128T SDLT Library firmware.  These are through the Dell Library and Tape Tools software as well as through the PowerVault 128T remote management card.

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T SDLT Library Firmware through Dell Library and Tape Tools

Upgrading the PowerVault 128T SDLT Tape Drive Firmware

NOTE: DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE FILE ON THE POWERVAULT 110T SDLT TAPE DRIVE OR POWERVAULT 136T SDLT TAPE DRIVE.  THIS FILE IS ONLY FOR USE WITH SDLT TAPE DRIVES CONTAINED IN THE POWERVAULT 128T.

NOTE: The Quantum SuperDLT Firmware Update utility must be performed on SuperDLT drives that are SCSI attached to a server.  If SuperDLT drives are connected to a Fibre Channel Bridge, the drives must be unhooked from the bridge and connected to a SCSI adapter on the system used to perform this upgrade.

1. Go to the directory x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\SDLT Drive. 

2. Click the setup.exe program and follow the directions to complete the installation.  This will install the SDLT Drive Firmware upgrade tool.
3. This program will create the default directory C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update and install a shortcut on your Start menu under Programs -> Quantum Applications.

4. Click the SDLT Update shortcut under Start -> Programs -> Quantum Applications or click SDLTUpdate.exe in the C:\Program Files\Quantum\SDLT Update folder.

5. The program will automatically scan for all SDLT tape drives connected to the system.

6. If the only SDLT tape drives connected to your system are in the PowerVault 136T Library, click on Select All SDLT(s) under Step 2 on the left side of the window.  Otherwise, find the SDLT tape drives in your library using the program and check the box next to each.  

7. Click Update SDLT(s) under Step 3 on the left side of the window and a warning message will appear.  After reading the message, click OK and you will be prompted to select the firmware file.  Browse to the directory x:\dell\drivers\128T\Firmware-A00\SDLT Drive\ and select sdlt1_v37_del-2.img. 

8. The firmware upgrade process will begin.  This is done serially and each drive will take up to four minutes to complete.  The two left LEDs on the tape drive will flash during the upgrade.  

9. In the upgrade utility, a P will appear next to each drive that has completed the upgrade successfully.  The bottom message frame will display "Successful firmware update". 

10. After all SDLT tape drives have been upgraded, close the upgrade application.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
